Roads, potholes and animals how to drive safely

The two photos below tell the story by themselves.

Khanapur road
Khanapur road

Cows sitting the middle of Khanapur road, just besides the divider and making the commuters take a sudden halt in front of them as to give them some respect and take a diversion and see at them and pass by. Similar scenes are seen at many places in city. Bogarves, Govaves are common places for these scenes.

The second picture is of the wonderful potholes that have been created by the little rain in August. Most roads were BIG pot hole free but as nothing was done to keep them good, now the roads are taking its own course. This picture take on congress road opposite Sheetal Rasvanti grih says it all. There are few more on the same road. No one has bothered to even fill them up.

Its Ganesh festival time and people will be now planning to move out to see the Ganesh Idols and I would like to caution then if it has rained, be sure “Daag Ache Hain’ as some potholes have been filled up with mud especially in places like the Market, interiors of Shahpur, Vadagaon. I experienced the same yesterday when I was travelling all over to get photos of Ganesh idols.

Potholes on Belgaum bypass road

4:38 PM Posted by ukmad

Belgaum is part of the golden quadrilateral project and the new 4 laned highways have been a great success. The Belgaum to Kolhapur highway was completed before time by Punj Lyod Ltd. is in very good condition and well maintained, where as the Belgaum to Dharwad stretch which   was builtSunway Construction Ltd. - Berhad & R N Shetty & Co. Malaysian - Indian JV was in trouble since the beginning. The project was abandoned for a while and then again the NHAI completed the said project.nh4

Now there are potholes that have occurred on the stretch nearShivabasavaNagar and Shree Nagar on the Halaga to Honga stretch. There are a few more pot holes near Kakti as well.

Regular commuters on the road say that these pot holes can cause accidents as normally all vehicles are on high speeds and suddenly you have to slow down and this causes a lot of hardships.nh4-2

Road Patchwork; scrap work

9:39 PM Posted by ukmad

The Congress Road from Military Mahadev to Gogte Circle is in very bad shape. It was half patched when L K Advani had visited Belgaum. However, the work was very shoddy.

Today evening I was surprised to see the road being closed and board put up road closed work in progress.

Nevertheless, when I saw what was going it was disheartening. Potholes were being with boulders & red mud and KHADI which is used to make the whole road and small Khadi which is used to put up on the road was being sprinkled on the patched up pot hole.
Ye India Kab sudhrega? Kab ? Jab hum sab Sudhernge aur we vote and elect good and able persons on the civic authorities and state and national levels.

Filled up potholes now a cause of worry

5:43 PM Posted by ukmad

Thanks to the visit of L K Advani, all potholes enroute from airport to GIT College were filled up in an emergency.

The potholes filled up on Congress road just show you how things are done in an emergency. The spot in the photo is in front of the main gate of Military Mahadev and the same spot was being filled up until 11 pm in the night yesterday.

May be due to unavailability of asphalt or some other undiscloseable fact the bolders have been just put in the potholes and now when the vehicles go over it, there is a great chance of slipping. I did slip a bit this afternoon over the same spot and many others might have as well. Now I say the earlier potholes were only better.

In addition, I heard about these politicians today some curses by the local public as they were made to wait for over 30 minutes until the caravan of Advani passed away. Traffic was blocked as the caravan of about 60 odd cars had to pass. The whole route from the airport to GIT was blocked for all traffic. I was quite lucky to get in to see the last 4 cars and then the blockade was cleared and I could go home.
Was anyone reading this in that blockade?

Belgaum getting unwarranted face-lift

9:31 PM Posted by ukmad

Dividers painted, new Zebra crossings, which never existed, potholes filled up this time with asphalt.
This is no dream but the truth and all this is Thanks to L K Advani who is coming to the city on 23rd for the silver jubilee celebrations of GIT College.
The corporation and the cantonment board also are filing the potholes. Congress road has now become motor able as one side of the road has been repaired, not very nicely tough but to suffice for the moment, it seems just ok.

All the city has become a hoarding city with every alternate lamp post has a big 10 feet hoarding on it of the BJP from Chennamma circle to GIT college.

The dividers all over the city that were never looked at have seen a make over with painting and grass cutting being done and cleaning.
The visit of Advani might also see other BJP stalwarts from the state to visit the city and hence all this.
I request all the leaders to keep coming to our city on a monthly basis so that this facelift becomes warranted.

Rains playing Fear Factor in Belgaum

12:04 PM Posted by ukmad

The rains are causing fear in the minds of people. Until last week, all were praying the rains to come and now that rains are pouring, people are praying otherwise.

The whole of Sunday it rained heavily, rainfall recorded was 37.5 mm. All the gutters and drains were over flowing. Water had inundated a few low lying areas like Shastri nagar etc. Even water had entered a few houses.

In the morning, parts of maratha Colony were under water but after an hour the water receded. When I spoke to a few persons in Maratha Colony they all had kept their Cars on Congress Road, some at their friends place somewhere else. I was one amongst them all to keep my car and scooters on congress road away from my house so that they do not swim. (My car and scooters have swimed for two occasions in the past) I saw a few houses in Chennama Nasgar 1st stage where water had entered the compounds, as the drains had nowhere to go.

Heavy rains have now taken a toll on the roads also. Some of the few good roads that were remaining have now some big potholes. Fear Factor is on the roads now. Skidding of bikers on the top loose khadi is common on almost all roads. Commuters try to skip some potholes and ride the wrong way causing trouble for other commuters. The scene is the same all over the city. I had planned to write on the bad roads, instead I should only mention the good roads, that would be easy and a small list.
I will get you some pictures of the wonderful potholes in a day's time. In the mean time if you have some send them, I will post them here.
