Diwali is here

11:58 AM Posted by ukmad

Yes it is that time of the year when one plans to make it to the home town to spend a couple of days with the family and celebrate Diwali the festival of lights together and enjoy family companionship. In the recent past Diwali holidays are being utilized as the best time for a family holiday somewhere away from regular life. diwali

But for a city like Belgaum it is the people away from home town who come in to meet and spend time with their loved ones. But coming here is not easy. No air connectivity, trains are full even when we try to book 60 days in advance and the last resort the private bus operators as usual hike Fares to cash in. The same has happened this year again some private bus operators have hiked the bus fares from today till Tuesday. The normal Mumbai ticket which would cost Rs.500 is now Rs.700 and the Volvo to Rs.1000 from Rs.700. Not all operators have hiked but a few have done it. The best way is to leave a special bus with special fare, so there is no comparison you can make as the operator say this is special bus. So people trying to come in you can face a hard time. Many prefer to drive from Mumbai and Bangalore instead of paying huge fares. Anyways welcome home!

The business district of the city has been kept busy for over a week now with people shopping for clothes, groceries, decorative lamps, gifts and of course clothes. This time not many new showrooms have opened up, to mention a couple in mind would be the Allen Solley showroom on Kirloskar Road, Sanskruti- a designer saree store in Ramdev Galli and the recently opened United colors of Bennetton showroom near Civil hospital.

Diwali Lanterns of different sizes and shapes are in the market and most of them are Chinese. The original or ancient octagonal lamp made of bamboo sticks is hardly seen. With these lamps the Chinese decorative lamps are also in huge demand.diwali1

This is the best time to buy gold? Not really as the price have gone up. Today on Dhanteras 10 grams will cost you Rs.16350 and Silver would cost you Rs.284 for 10 grams. Even with this price rise the demand for gold has not gone down. Retailer told this blog people are buying gold in anticipation that it will rise to 18 thousand and we are having brisk business.diwali2

Sweets and savories the integral part of Diwali has been terribly hit by a price hike and prices of sweets have increased.

What to do this Diwali some suggestions:

Tyr and donate something to the Flood relief, we as citizens of a country should be caring of your fellow citizens. You could donate to the CM’s relief fund or other NGO’s like the Joy Bank.

Try not to use those high sound making crackers and it would be best to avoid crackers.

Most people ignore this but; try buying an original Antivirus for your computers by which you can be sure no one is stealing your information.

You could make some one’s life happier by donating to various destitute homes and orphanages like Karunalaya, Shantivrudhshram, Mahaveshwari school of blind to mention a few.

At the end have a safe and Happy Diwali! May your life be filled with colors and joy.

Councilors want a new plan to be prepared for the 100 crore SDP

Only two applications received for Tender

Tender ads published in Hubli daily

Majority work include improvement of drainage and small lanes

Tender awarded to AP co., which quoted more than stipulated rates

A group of councilors claiming support of 35 members met Deputy Commissioner G. Ravishankar on Monday afternoon, pleaded him to cancel the action plan prepared by a group of officials under the influence of two MLAs, and prepare a new action plan in accordance with the guidelines issued by the State Government.

Kiran Sayanak, Latif Pathan, Netaji Jadhav and Parshuram Dhage representing both ruling and opposition in the BCC led the group.

They alleged that the plan was prepared in violation of the guidelines set by the govt. The plan was made to suit wishes and convenience of the two MLAs and issued tender notification in the Hubli edition of a regional newspaper.

Only two applications were received as against a minimum three applications to finalize a tender work. Yet, the application of an Andhra Pradesh-based contractor was considered for award of works despite the fact that the rates quoted were 22 per cent more than the prevailing guideline rates of the State Government.

Improvement Drainage lines and small lanes are the works selected in the current plan which the corporation makes a yearly ward wise allocation.

At least 15 wards, including that of Mayor and Deputy Mayor and other prominent councilors had been completely left out under the SDP, which was not incidental but deliberate and politically motivated. All the decisions were taken by Mr. Sait and Mr. Patil and the officials only danced to their tunes under pressure from an influential young politician from Shimoga district.

Big B Amitabh on his song scene in Asoga

11:59 AM Posted by ukmad

abhiman-1Big B Amitabh Bachchan on his 67th birthday shared legendary stories and trivia about his trips to various locations in India for his shoots over the years.

A village named Asoga on the banks of river Malaprabha's very attractive tourist place famous for its temple. This temple was built during the Kadamba kings in the mediveal period. Important sequences from the 70s hit movie 'Abhimaan' (featuring Amithabh Bacchan and Jaya bhaduri) were shot near the river Malprabha at Asoga. The entire song 'Nadiya kinare' has been shot there.

Nadiya kinaare, Abhimaan - BelgaumabhimanThis film was very special for Jaya and me because we had produced it. Hrishida was our godfather. SD Burmansaab gave the music and the time we spent with him during the music sittings was unforgettable. The way he’d sing, we failed to bring the essence into our recordings. I always felt that there was some kami somewhere, he would sing so beautifully. The song was shot in a village near Belgaum. Hrishida wanted a village environment with a small temple, a river, a sacred pond with its water capable of uniting two people in love. We found such a pond. Back then, Jaya and I weren't married. It was a very special time for both of us. Jaya had long, ankle-length hair then.

How did it start?

Anand --> One day we (Anand & Beena) were out shopping for some designer candles for our home and we saw some designer candles in a few shops in Belgaum. We felt that they where shabbily decorated and when we looked at the price tag we were shocked to see that they where expensive, overpriced and had a Made in China Tag. I was in Pune for more than a Year and even there I did find good designer candles to be expensive. So we said to ourselves why can’t someone make good quality designer candle products with better designs at reasonable price in India and that is the time when it struck us both (me and my wife) that why don’t we make better quality designer candle products ourselves at reasonable price right here in Belgaum. So we started manufacturing Exclusive Designer Candle right here in Belgaum.
