Omkrown takes RFID to banks hospitals schools
10:55 AM Posted by ukmad
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is used in retail and logistics, but how many of us know about it being used in schools, hospitals, jewelery stores and now banks. Belgaum-based company- Omkrown Systems Pvt Ltd is all geared up to take the lead in the RFID market in non-conventional industry segments.
The company has been serving its regional clients for long, and is now expanding operations to neighboring states. It has bagged 4-5 big deals recently, one of them being RFID system at 42 branches of Gujarat-based Anand Niketan School. The group is planning for another 60 schools by the end of 2013.
Omkrown specializes in the development of RFID Solutions, Animations and Web Based Solutions for all sectors. After implementing RFID for Jewellery, schools, hospitals and banking industry, they wish to explore Container/Pallet Tracking, Manufacturing Lines, Parking Lots and Fleet Maintenance.
The School Management System helps in collection and dissemination of all the records of a student. The students carry an RFID-enabled card that contains personal, attendance and academic records. This system could also be customized with SMS and GPS features, which could be used by the parents to track their kids.
The banking solution helps in enhanced service and prevention of credit card frauds. Under this process, the passbook or debit/credit card of the customer is tagged with the RFID tags which will contain all information of the customer. Whenever the customer enters bank, the respective tag will be read by the RFID reader in the entrance of the bank and will notify the bankers with the client information. It also helps in manage the academic record, fees, payroll, heath record, library, teacher profile and many more.
The latest in the offering is RFID in hospital. It will facilitate to access patient information for review, to track patients and doctors location during emergency and to restrict access to unauthorized staff in a restricted area within hospital.
Omkrown System was incorporated in July 1992 as a private limited company by RK group of concerns. It started with testing of specialty chemicals and gradually expanded the wings to RFID solutions. Like any new company, Omkorwn faced the challenges of convincing the clients.

Pity on Belgaum
4:53 PM Posted by ukmad
Yesterday CM Yedurappa acclaimed that he would work towards getting a Second capital status to Belgaum, when he was here for a visit. Yeddyurappa also said most of the government offices working in the city would be shifted to the Soudha once its construction was over.
The first announcement in this regard was made during the legislature session in Belgaum in Sept 2006.
This piece of news was nothing new or dramatic as he has been saying the same for year now, but nothing has happened on ground.
And as it had to happen the Maharashtra MLAs and political parties have criticized this act f BSY of making Belgaum the second capital.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said Yeddyurappa was speaking out of turn. "The Maharashtra government's plea to have Belgaum and Karwar as part of the state is pending before the Supreme Court," he said.
NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said, "The statement is uncalled for and we will seek legal recourse on the issue."
Sena leader Diwakar Raote said his party would oppose any attempt by the Karnataka government to impose its mandate on lakhs of Marathi-speaking people there (Belgaum).
My question is to the Belgaumites, Leave those politicians behind they have to survive (both sides) and cook something but we should think on these questions:
What difference will it make after Belgaum is given Second capital status?
Will this status resume Air connectivity?
Will we get 24 hour power supply?
Will there be development in a planned manner with the involvement of the citizens?
And many such more questions will arise in due course.
What Belgaum city needs is not talks but action. We have received 100 crore grant and we will get another 100 crore but is that money being utlised for the betterment of the public. Still no major works taken up under the special grant are complete( major works Mahatma Phule road, angol road, Old P B Road).

Census to begin on April 15 in Karnataka
8:24 PM Posted by ukmad
The Indian Census is the most credible source of information on Demography (Population characteristics), Economic Activity, Literacy & Education, Housing & Household Amenities, Urbanization, Fertility and Mortality, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Language, Religion, Migration, Disability and many other socio-cultural and demographic data since 1872.
Census 2011 will be the 15th National Census of the country. This is the only source of primary data at village, town and ward level. It provides valuable information for planning and formulation of polices for Central & State Governments and is widely used by National & International agencies, scholars, business people, industrialists, and many more. The delimitation/reservation of Constituencies - Parliamentary/Assembly/Panchayats and other Local Bodies is also done on the basis of the demographic data thrown up by the Census. That is why the slogan of Census 2011 is "Our Census, Our Future".
The first round of house listing will commence in Karnataka from April 15 till June 1, 2010. Actual census will start in 2011 January.
The National Population Register (NPR) would be a Register of usual residents of the country. The NPR will be a comprehensive identity database that would help in better targeting of the benefits and services under the Government schemes/programmes, improve planning and help strengthen security of the country. This is being done for the first time in the country.
Census Process:
The Census process involves visiting each and every household and gathering particulars by asking questions and filling up Census Forms. The information collected about individuals is kept absolutely confidential. In fact this information is not accessible even to Courts of law. After the field work is over the forms are transported to data processing centres located at 15 cities across the country. The data processing will be done using sophisticated software called Intelligent Character Recognition Software (ICR). This technology was pioneered by India in Census 2001 has become the benchmark for Censuses all around the globe.
NPR Process:
Details such as Name, Date of Birth, Sex, Present Address, Permanent Address, Names of Father, Mother and Spouse etc will be gathered by visiting each and every household.
All usual residents will be eligible to be included irrespective of their Nationality. Each and every household will be given an Acknowledgement Slip at the time of enumeration.
The data will then be entered into computers in the local language of the State as well as in English.
Once this database has been created, biometrics such as photograph, 10 fingerprints and probably Iris information will be added for all persons aged 15 years and above. This will be done by arranging camps at every village and at the ward level in every town. Each household will be required to bring the Acknowledgement Slip to such camps. Those who miss these camps will be given the opportunity to present themselves at permanent NPR Centres to be set up at the Tehsil/Town level.
In the next step, data will be printed out and displayed at prominent places within the village and ward for the public to see. Objections will be sought and registered at this stage. Each of these objections will then be inquired into by the local Revenue Department Officer and a proper disposal given in writing. Persons aggrieved by such order have a right of appeal to the Tehsildar and then to the District Collector.
The lists thus authenticated will then be sent to the Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI) for de-duplication and issue of UID Numbers. All duplicates will be eliminated at this stage based on comparison of biometrics. Unique ID numbers will also be generated for every person. The cleaned database along with the UID Number will then be sent back to the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India (ORG&CCI) and would form the National Population Register. As the UID system works on the basis of biometric de-duplication, in the case of persons of age 15 years and above (for whom biometrics is available), the UID Number will be available for each individual. For those below the age of 15 years (for whom biometrics is not available), the UID Number will be linked to the parent or guardian.
National Identity Cards will be given in a phased manner to all usual residents by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India. The issue of Cards will be done in Coastal Villages to start with. After this the coastal Towns will be covered and so on till the entire country is covered.
Government servants duly appointed as Enumerators will visit each and every house and collect the information required. They will carry an Identity Card as well as an Appointment Letter. In case of need you may ask them to show these documents. The local Tahsildar can also be contacted in this regard.
The local Tehsildar/Ward Officer of your area is the designated officer. In case of need you can also contact the Collector/DC/DM of your District or the Commissioner of your Town. You can also intimate us over e mail or contact us over the toll free number given in this website.

Prof B R Ananthan who has been appointed as special officer (SO) to the recently created Belgaum University has brought to fore charges of ‘misconduct’ and corruption leveled against him during his tenure as chairman of Department of Business Management in Mysore University.
Justice N Venkatachala as Karnataka Lokayukta had inquired into allegations and found Ananthan guilty of making ‘unlawful gain’. The inquiry report, submitted in April 2003, had recommended to the government to direct the Mysore University syndicate to initiate disciplinary action against him.
The HC quashed the inquiry report in February 2004 on the grounds that he (Lokayukta) had no jurisdiction to investigate complaints against vice-chancellors and professors of universities.

Aditya Vernekar dreams big with creative designing
12:15 PM Posted by ukmad
Aditya Gajanan Vernekar brought laurels to Belgaum by winning the second prize in The Ideation Award at the recently held Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2010 (MIFF 2010) recently. Aditya did his PUC from GSS college and his civil engineering from GIT. He won the 2nd prize while he was facing tough competition from students from 22 countries. He had designed a multi purpose stool “QUBE”. Which has many uses. Currently he is pursuing his studies at the Limkokwing University of creative technology Malaysia.
His new design has been shortlisted in the Lamborghini design competition where his design has been shortlisted out of 285 entries and is now in the last 64. Aditya named this theme COLOURina and you can check that out on www.paintmyride.org
A small interview with Aditya:
This is Aditya's first interview to any media in India and AAB is proud to be the first one.
What made you take up creative designing?
Aditya ---> The title of my course is industrial design major and my father Mr. Gajanan Vernekar who is an Engineer & Industrial designer. He is my main source of inspiration. I was always influenced by some of the great designers like Mark Newson, Konstantingrcic, Renzo Piano, Carl Liu And pretty much as a person I grew up with similar experiences. Lots of failures and down sides in my past and those have become my keys to present success.
Other aspects that greatly contributed to taking design are, I always wanted to explore some new possibilities& culture. Meet new people exchange views & ideas one of the great contributors to my design understanding is Mr. Reza Razazzadeh from Iran my close friend and a great artist.
Your experiences creating the Qube and why u thought of that design?
Aditya ---->Qube was just a general design the idea of developing such a seating evolved from one of my personal experiences when I visited a public school.
India is a developing nation and education is one of our vital source and stand point to be a strong nation. But not really much has changed in the class room. Country is going hi tech but we still sit on those monstrous dull wooden benches which don’t really have any ergonomic functionality nor are they safe they are very static and eat up lot of floor space. That’s where I came up with idea of developing qube.
It simply transforms to the requirement of the user for best possible function. Charles Darwin said nor does the strongest, nor does the smartest but one who transforms and adapts to the situation exist that’s the philosophy behind designing qube
How did u think of participating in MIFF 2010.
Aditya ---->Participating MIFF 2010 was just an initiative to display my skill and to test my competency among other Students in the same field. Over all I developed this project in 16 days when I was in India for my midterm break.
What made you take up creative designing?
Aditya ----> The message I would like to convey is believe in yourself, be very confident Be a dreamer and stretch your boundaries beyond to achieve them. Enjoy failures & experiences and you will enjoy success like never before.
Your future plans?
Aditya ----> Future plans are, I am very keen on enrolling myself for MDES in advance Product design at UMEA SWEDEN. Or peruse MDES in Industrial design at IDC at IIT Powai, Mumbai. Working for it hope I get there.
