Discriminatory policy of State Government is Belgaumites as second class citizen

Aerospace park planned near Bangalore airport

Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has acquired land for the proposed 1,000-acre aerospace park to be developed near the international airport at Devanahalli in Bangalore. The park will include an aviation MRO-related activities (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) and 250 acre of an export-oriented aerospace SEZ. The SEZ is to be developed by KIADB and is expected to become operational from June 2010.

The above piece of news was in highlights along the launch of India’s first Aerospace SEZ QUEST at Belgaum. There is a loud noise on decongestion of Bangalore, government committee for regional imbalance, spreading evenly industries across the state.
Then Why today such extra announcements?
Why can’t an Government Aerospace Park shapes up near Belgaum ?
Belgaum can have Public sector players such as HAL and NAL.
This is utter case of discrimination against Belgaum development rising to competition within the state; bet it, they will sell land at very cheaper rate to attract foreign establishment and the land would remain for long periods vacant, but QUEST is much organized so will thrive up and flourish better.

Belgaum best suits for MRO facilities, the government has already paid the farmers in Sambra and Balekundri for additional 370 acres of land acquired around airport the present Airport is on 450 acres of land, Why not develop MRO at Belgaum The MRO (Maintain Repair Overhaul) just need some additional ware housing some new siding bays and hangers along with additional taxi way. Belgaum Airport is situated out of city the place is already a semi sub urban part with cosmopolitan crowd of Defense establishment and being having good scope of Academic thrust of some new collages coming up in the area.

belgaum-ap1Present Belgaum Airport

It had happened in past with Belgaum a thriving hub of auto component sector and back bone for Pune auto ancillaries, till date haven’t got an automobile plant or industry though one got sanction was driven away by Greedy MP’s and MLA’s of Dharwad/Hubli what are we waiting for more projects to get eyewash and missed out or driven away.

belgaum-ap2This is how MRO would be based here

belgaum-ap3This is how it would look like

Now you all think over How should be the government Policies should be discriminatory like this or prove voice of equality towards the entire state, where are the people/Politicians /Think tanks who calls for fight on injustice to north Karnataka and are mum today, besides have forgotten the support garnered for SWR railway head quarter at Hubli. Is not Belgaum In North Karnataka didn’t we fight then for this cause, though pity we still have not got Dharwad Belgaum rail line and trains to capital city of Bangalore, and Bangalore Mysore line is taken up for doubling.

Anguish here is over this attitude of government towards Belgaumites as second class citizen and time has come to ask them to stop this Let me see after reading this, How many voices will be rising , and more importantly Who will hear it, will it go through MPs MLA and Official dignitaries of Belgaum .

Make a difference for living in this society (though bounded by Linguistic territorial boundaries) we do are much dignified, cannot be ignored!!!!

The efforts of Satish in this particular story are immense, I just hope Govt. is reading this. (Does the Govt. ever read Blogs?)

Test tube baby fame Dr Indira Hinduja spent her childhood in Belgaum

4:23 PM Posted by ukmad

Dr.Indira Hinduja
Dr.Indira Hinduja

Dr Indira Hinduja has created what perhaps is the biggest gift for childless couples — India's first test-tube baby, Harsha Chevda. What she started in 1988, has led today to a plethora of invitro fertilisation (IVF) clinics across Mumbai. But Dr Indira Hinduja, who first made it all happen, has rightfully earned herself a place in Indian medical history. Most cannot forget that sense of wonder when they heard about the birth of Harsha. For Dr Hinduja, it was a culmination of a three-year-long painstaking research in IVF and embryo transfer. Dr Hinduja has successfully delivered more than 1244 test-tube babies in India.

Dr.Indira Hinduja was born at Shikarpur, (Pakistan) and during the Partition, her family migrated to Mumbai. Indira was only a few months old then.

After living in Belgaum for some years, they moved back to Mumbai in 1963. And ever since, it’s been her home. She studied in Mahila Vidyalaya Belgaum and stayed near Kelkar bag (this is from sources). During her childhood she was unsure of what she wanted to do. She decided to take up medicine when she was in high school. Earlier, she wanted to be a musician. Medicine was decision that came after much thought.

Dr Indira Hinduja is an MD in Gynecology and Obstetrics and she was awarded a Ph D degree for her thesis entitled Human In vitro Fertilisation and Embryo Transfer from Bombay University when she was a full-time practicing obstetrician and gynecologist on the clinical faculty of the Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. This significant contribution lies in combining her basic successful surgical skills with those of experimental embryology, endocrinology and cell biology, which led to the first ever, scientifically documented 'test-tube baby' in the country on August 6, 1986. This creditable achievement was the result of the collaborated efforts of the KEM Hospital and Institute for Research in Reproduction (ICMR).indirahinduja1986

She is also credited for developing an acolyte donation technique for menopausal and premature ovarian failure patients, giving the country's first baby out of this technique on January 24, 1991.

For her outstanding performances, she has been felicitated on many occasions. She is the recipient of many awards— Young Indian Award (1987), Outstanding Lady Citizen of Maharashtra State Jaycee Award (1987), Bharat Nirman Award for Talented Ladies (1994), International Women's Day Award by the mayor of Mumbai (1995; 2000), Lifetime Achievement Award by Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society of India (1999) and Dhanvantari Award by the governor of Maharashtra (2000) are a few.

When this blog asked the budding engineers how it all started, their experience this is what they said-

Initially, we had no belief in ourselves to flow against the stream, learn alien languages and design a project from the scratch. The will of our team and the intense urge to do something fresh as budding engineers landed us to eth1 Network Solutions. Where in we not only learnt the technical know how but also were guided morally by Mr. Swapneel Patnekar. There has always been unconditional support and co- ordination by our mentor Prof. Umesh M Kulkarni lecturer Computer Science and Engineering.

At eth1 Network Solutions, we learnt through experience and committing our own mistakes rather than the conventional black board and chalk piece approach, under the thorough professional approach of this company.
The outcome was a little slow in the beginning but we are picking up at a steady pace and happy to see our dreams turn reality. Reaching out the public was the key to the growth of our ideas, taking their suggestions, thinking in terms of providing solutions to their practical problems through our small yet effective SMS advertising/ marketing campaign.

Did you know this GTS benchmarks in Belgaum

7:32 AM Posted by ukmad

In Belgaum there are two GTS (Great Trigonometrical Survey) benchmarks. The first is housed in the St.Mary’s church premises in camp and the second one is placed at the Circuit House.maryshruch

GTS is the standard is for establishing the elevations of the above mean sea level from a specific reference land surface. This was established in 1907 as 2523 feet above mean sea level.

A G.T.S. (Great Trigonometrical Survey) benchmark is a permanently fixed reference survey station (or point), having known elevation with respect to a standard datum (mean sea level). These are established all over India by Survey of India department with greater precision. A benchmark value is quite essential at any survey area, especially for reduction of observed sea level with respect to mean sea level or chart datum (CD). While carrying out bathymetric survey of a survey area, the datum referenced values thus obtained are used to compute the final depth contours of the survey area (with respect to CD). So, a benchmark, having known elevation is quite essential at the survey area, without which, preparation of a bathymetric chart is impossible. In some places, GTS benchmarks are available within a kilometer distance and can be easily transferred to the survey area by fly leveling using an automatic Level instrument and a graduated leveling staff. But in most of the cases, GTS benchmarks may be at far away distance from the area to be surveyed. In these cases, the most common traditional method of transferring the benchmark value using an automatic level instrument is a difficult task, consuming enormous amount of time and labour. To eliminate this process, a method is suggested in this technical report to transfer GTS benchmark from any far distance to the survey area. A latest Electronic Total Station (ETS) is the instrument that can be used for this purpose. The main advantage in applying this method is that considerable amount of time can be saved while maintaining the required accuracy.

Lakshmi Rai said, she is playing the heroine in a Hindi movie that would begin early next year.

She also dismissed media reports that often link her with co-artistes, cricketers and much recently with her physical trainer, she said she has better things than these to do.laxmi-rai

Stiff resistance against RPD road widening

11:35 AM Posted by ukmad

The corporation has gone ahead with the marking on the houses and shops along the RPD college road. The centre of the existing road was taken and 40 feet on both sides was marked which made the residents a bit uneasy and said that nothing should be done without their consent and until they get full compensation.

Still nothing has been decided about the compensation for the persons who will lose their property. The said road has been sanctioned under the special grant of 100 crore and the money can be spent only on the road and not as compensation. The city corporation can easily say that we have nothing to do with it and we cannot compensate.

The residents on Monday will submit a memorandum to the commissioner in this regard. The residents are angry in the manner in which the whole process is being under taken. Residents demanded that first make the ring road and then widen this road. First complete all incomplete works in the city and then come here. As this road has colleges the rush is only until 4 pm and 3 months when there are no classes this road is bare. Residents are ready for the road to be widened to 50 feet but not 80 feet.

Now it is left to be seen how the residents approach this matter and how the authorities handle this. Going to the court for a stay was also on the cards of the residents.

Quest and Sambra airport gain or loss

QUEST sez Belgaum Launch Thumps UP ,but Down with Short sighted Belgaum MP’s MLA and the government
It was real good news for Belgaum on QUEST launch with headlines in leading news papers, opening window of opportunity for future development of this place, but there are few every opening facts which I believe must shown to the world .
Positives:
1) Quest I going to create 7000 jobs in near future at Belgaum
2) New MNC SABCA Belgium, FARIAN France and Magellan (In fact Magellan is already had started the establishment,
3) Restoration of Air service in next three months

The third point may have some reservation about load factor , it is true there had been no much load factor on Bangalore sector but there was enough manageable load on Mumbai- Belgaum sector, but still why did government curtailed services and forced to keep Bangalore- Belgaum sector open. Why did doesn’t Belgaum get a cross sector flight as that of Hubli, such as Bangalore -Mumbai via Belgaum sector, with these kind of load factor shared the airline does not lose much income.

Why two yard sticks for Belgaum and Hubli, Our assessment for last four years is Belgaum- Mumbai sector load factor was 87% so how can this be low pax sector. Why state government is more interested in keeping a via Air service in Hubli and not in Belgaum.
The short sightedness of MP’s MLA of Belgaum and state government, on such a big launch event none of them thought of potential of Belgaum to be one f the MRO (Maintenance Repair Overhauling) base in future, they can still justify the acquiring of 350 acre of land for Airport expansion.

Negatives:
Some facts on Belgaum Airport on land acquisition
There is hue and cry in the media -“Why govt acquired fertile land”, let me tell you about this so called place Sambra Airport Area , the farmers are already being selling land to private developers on higher cost (the recent one being Mantri developers) so when it comes to giving to government they start knowing about its fertility , I myself owe three plots on such so called fertile land till date in Balemkundri Pant nagar and Sambra , and out of which I have already constructed a house. The factor here is not at all about fertility or loss of livelihood , most of these farmers have very small land holding average of 3 acres per family individual, and selling land for plot development is big bucks then acquiring from government on fixed rate, so the matter is finally about greed .
Some light on Naval Stock and base repair depot, it is much genuine if defense establishment acquire these land, why should one have objection on matter concerned with the country’s security.
We can still see a ray of growth no matter what the farmers fight for or the politicians fix the rates or private developers vow these village folks with greed lurking out of their mouth.

A developed Belgaum is our dream!

Renuka Sugars Belgaum acquires Brazilian company

11:19 AM Posted by ukmad

renukaFirst overseas acquisition by an Indian sugar company

Renuka Sugars is a Belgaum based company with Murkumbi as its promoters with its registered office at Camp.

In the first acquisition of any foreign sugar and ethanol unit by an Indian company, Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd (SRSL), one of the largest producers in the country, has acquired Brazil’s Vale Do Ivaí SA Açúcar e Álcool (VDI) at an enterprise value of $240 million (Rs 1,112 crore).

Sugar companies are looking for opportunities abroad, partly due to restrictions on undertaking farming directly.

SRSL will pay $82 million (Rs 380 crore) now and the balance over eight years. It plans to finance the acquisition by leveraging the $105 million (Rs 506 crore) it raised through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) of shares in July. Narendra Murkumbhi, MD of SRSL, had earlier said the proceeds would be used on refinery and cogeneration plans.

The company operates eight sugar mills, five owned and three leased, with a cumulative daily crushing capacity of 35,000 tonnes.

The acquisition of VDI includes two sugar and ethanol production facilities in the southern Brazilian state of Parana, with a combined cane crushing capacity of 3.1 million tonnes a year. VDI holds strategic stakes in several logistics assets, including terminals for storage and loading of sugar and ethanol at the port of Paranagua.

The acquisition also includes 18,000 hectares of cultivable land under VDI, through which the company meets the larger part of its sugarcane requirements. The land is on long-term lease and used to cultivate cane with an average yield of 95 tonnes a hectare, with recovery of 13 per cent. In India, the yield (around 60-65 tonnes per hectare) and the recovery (a maximum of 11.5 per cent) are lower.

The acquisition has got the approval of leading creditors of VDI and the other remaining conditions are expected to be completed over the next 45 days. Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors is the strategic advisor to SRSL for this acquisition.
