Good rains at last

10:33 AM Posted by ukmad

From July 2 Belgaum has seen good monsoon showers and from the past two days the intensity has grown much more.

On Wednesday, the highest rainfall during the week was recorded in Khanapur taluk (285 mm) followed by Belgaum taluk - 88.2 mm.

There was water logging problems in low lying areas like Gandhinagar, Shivaji Nagar etc. The farmers have taken a sigh of relief as surrounding areas have got average rainfall which is good for the crop. They hope to get more rain fall in the coming days.

Residents and traders of Hatiwal Galli and Kacheri Galli in the busy Shahpur locality of Belgaum on Wednesday staged “rasta roko” for some time to draw the attention of the Belgaum City Corporation authorities to the problems they are facing owing to slow pace of civic work.

According to the residents, corporation workers had dug trenches in the two roads to lay drinking water pipelines three years ago but had not completed the work. The two roads, especially the one in front of Banashankari temple, get flooded during rains, they said.

The sales of Fans have increased said a local dealer. He said normally the demand is there from mid march or later but these enquiries started in late February only and we are doing good business in this first week. The same is the case with AC’s. The sale of ice cream is rising day by day and as soon as the exams get over all the ice cream dealers will be doing brisk business.

Incase of ice cream this time in the city you can also taste Baskin Robbins at the Nucleus mall, elsewhere Aditya  ice cream is the latest new comer with easy availability almost all over, there are those old brands like Dinshaws and Amul also.

The sale of eye glasses on the road side has also seen a rise. Juice centers, coconut vendors are doing brisk business as the temperature is rising day by day and there is no great relief.

See the gradual increase in the temperatures.

Just compare the monthly averages in Jan and Feb. this year and we could be heading for a very hot summer ahead. In May we could even break some records.

It is believed that after Holi if the rains come, they keep on coming in between till the monsoons. Let’s see Holi is a couple of days ahead and hope for the best.

See the forecast for the coming week, no sight of relief.

Yes, the much-expected cold is knocking at the doors of Belgaum. After Diwali the cold is gearing up to hit at us.

In the past two days, even at 8pm we can feel the cold wind and at around 2 am the cold is at its best. This is just the start with temperatures juts reaching around 14-18degrees Celsius. It normally comes down to 8-9 degrees Celsius in December. The cold can be felt more in suburbs than in the main city.

So friends get ready get out all those Woolens from those bags and let them breathe Cold Air. As I am writing this the temperature is 15 degrees Celsius.
