Maharashtra firm building Karnatakas pride
5:02 PM Posted by ukmad
For over a week now Belgaum border row has been in the news in the national media was here and now is settling down. Even today reporters from far off places such as Kolkatta are in city to make coverage about this entire city.
Even when all this fight is going on a Maharashtra firm is toiling hard to complete its deadlines set for them by the State of Government for its ambitious Suvarna Soudha Project at Hlaga Bastwad Belgaum.
Pune-based family-owned construction firm, B G Shirke Group is now racing to complete the Rs-256 crore project spread over a 127-acre area on a hillock at Halaga-Bastwad village off National Highway 4.
The project has to be ready by the year end so that the winter session can be held here. CM BSYeddurappa visits the site of construction each time he is here for some work.
The project which was started in 2008 by BSY was a part of the strategy to give Belgaum a second capital status, but that never happened but the work on the Suvarna Soudha commenced on time is going as pr schedule the on site manager said.
B G Shirke Group has completed many projects in Karnataka including the Vikas Soudha Bangalore and they say they are proud to be working on such a prestigious project. They said we work in part of the world.
So even when the inter state bus services are still not resumed a Maharashtra company is busy building Karnataka's pride.

QuEST Global Manufacturing Becomes the 1st Indian Private Sector Player to Work Directly with Airbus for the Manufacture of Aerostructure Parts .
QuEST Global’s Selection as Airbus Preferred Supplier for Manufacturing Capabilities, ability to Offer Offset Fulfillment and Risk Sharing Partnerships, positions QuEST Global Uniquely Amongst Indian Aerospace Players.
The global aerospace engineering & manufacturing major, QuEST Global announced today that it has become the first Indian private sector player to manufacture parts directly to Airbus under the long term agreement.
This distinction comes after a stringent selection process by distinguished Airbus and EADS sourcing and manufacturing organizations. This is a first step into manufacturing relationship with Airbus on existing program with a view to expand engagement to many other sourcing opportunities to leverage QuEST Global’s capabilities.
QuEST Global has been recognized as a quality supplier to the aerospace industry through the AS 9100 certification received for both engineering services and manufacturing practices. QuEST Global has set up an integrated manufacturing facility ranging from Machining, sheet metal processing, assembly and special processing (thro joint venture with Magellan Aerospace). The facility is approved by Airbus apart from other certifications like NADCAP.
QuEST Global becomes the only private sector company in India to sign Engineering Services and Manufacturing agreements. Under these agreements, QuEST Global will support various current programs in Manufacturing as well as current and upcoming programs in Design. QuEST Global has also set up an aerospace supply chain eco-system in its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) which is spread over 262 acres in Belgaum, North Karnataka, India. This will be highly beneficial to Airbus from a point of view of being able to source fully finished aerospace components and sub assemblies from India apart from delivering offset obligations.
“This win highlights the strength and strategic importance of QuEST Global’s manufacturing and SEZ capabilities. We are honored by the confidence that Airbus has shown in QuEST Global and we are eager and well prepared to take on this engagement. QuEST Global’s Engineering along with Manufacturing from our Belgaum SEZ will provide the ideal ‘end to end solution’ to Airbus.” said Aravind Melligeri, Chairman & Co-founder, QuEST Global.

Border row hits hard on state transport corporations
8:01 PM Posted by ukmad
It has been over a week now that inter state bus service between Karnataka Maharashtra has been halted. So far the MSRTC has lost over Rs. 2 crores due to non operations. A similar amount has been lost by the KSRTC in the last 7 days due to non operation.
The deficit making MSRTC in a statement today said that if this situation prevails for more then they will face a huge loss which will be irrecoverable.
The KSRTC is no different with losses due to non operations, it wants the service to resume as early as possible.
As the buses are off the road the Railway is seeing a huge rush for traffic towards Miraj. The Ekadashi is on Wednesday where people travel to Pandharpur from here, they are facing a very hard time.
Still it is very unclear when operations would commence but sources told the blog that as things have now come under control we could see these buses on the road tomorrow in phases.
Commuters are facing hardships and now if one has to travel to Kolhapur, one needs to go to Nippani and then take a tempo to Kagal and then reach Kolhapur.
People fight – people suffer.
Too many Road widening
6:53 PM Posted by ukmad
In the past six months Belgaum has seen a lot of ho-hallo on the road widening in various areas of the city.
In December 2009 these roads were taken up for widening:
RPD college road to Patwardhan layout (under 100 crore special grant) – Work is half done
Mahatma Fule road to Old PB road (under 100 crore special grant) -still work in progress
APMC road (under 100 crore special grant) – Work in progress Major complete
Old PB road upto bus stand – Trees have been cut on the road but no further progress
Khanapur Road (Sanchayani circle to Suryakant Park) (Cantonment Board) – nothing has happened here
Govaves to 3rd Gate (PWD) – Nothing has happened here
Leaving the last two roads Khanapur Road and Govaves to 3rd Gate on which nothing but some papers have moved in the PWD, all the other roads were taken up by the Corporation under the special 100 crore grant. And majority works were supposed to be complete by January 2010, but the work is still in progress.
Even after such a mess, the corporation in a so called MLA style road widening is getting it self ready to widen a few more roads after Ganpati may be. These roads are
Goaves to 1st Gate (Shukurwar Peth) – exact width of road not known
1st gate to RPD cross ( Deshmukh road) - exact width of road not known
Vadgaon to Old Belgaum
The above road widening may be done as marking the center point of the street was carried out in Shukurwar Peth and Deshmukh road. Bank of India Shahpur to Old PB road which will go from the Shivaji Garden people have received notices for the same. And in this road an old well in the garden will also face closure. This road which is leading from Mahatma Phule road will join Dharwad road.
For any road widening to be done in the city the City corporation has to pass a resolution for the same but all the above projects were done without its approval and the same be continued in future.
A few questions arise in the mind when the road the expansion in the new areas will begin. Shukurwar Peth will not be easy as there is a property of a local representative. Deshmukh road also has some great stalwarts from media. Even if these two roads are widened what about the Railway gate. The main cause of traffic jam here is the railway gate. No one is speaking about this.
The Vadgaon to Old Belgaum road has houses of poor weavers who will loose a major chunk of their house and this is a major cause of concern for them.
Road widening is very essential for a growing city but the manner in which the same is executed is the problem everywhere. A great example of doing things in a hurry is the case of Delhi where new roads were laid in record time for the commonwealth games and now everyday we have news of vehicles getting stuck into dumps on the newly laid roads. Similar things can happen here as well.
Instead of taking so many projects at one time, the corporation(if its has powers) should take one road complete it and then go for the next one. Belgaum is seeing some road widening in a new abhay style.

7:27 AM Posted by ukmad
MES, Shiv Sena, Shiv Prathisthan, VHP, Swarajya, MNS and many others together have called for a Belgaum Bandh today, Sunday 18 July after a saffron flag was burnt by KRV (Praveen Shetty faction) at Chennamma Circle yesterday. An effigy of Bal Thakrey was also burnt.

SP Sonia Naranag in a release said that no such incident of flag burning has happened.
Last night a few stone pelting instances were reported from Gandhinagar on a KSRTC bus, in Bhandur Galli and a private bus also was stoned in Tilakwadi.
The situation on a whole is tense but under control.
Effigy I am in great demand
8:32 PM Posted by ukmad
In the recent years I am have become a need to all the political parties big or small. Not only parties; I am now the main element around which an entire agitation revolves.
I have been in Belgaum from many years, but in the past week or so I have got a great demand for my self after the rake up of the border dispute once again.
Did you all get who am I, NO, I am “Effigy” A crude figure or dummy representing a hated person or group.
I am made in all sizes and figures with many faces most of them very flagitious, but even then I am made with care and then carried along to a center of the circle and my favorite circle is Chennamma Circle. Where after shouting slogans a few who made me keep me in the center of the circle and when all the traffic is blocked “I feel like a hero, with people from all angles looking at me and the media jumping, sitting to get a good angle of me”.
After all shoutiung is done it my time to get some harsh beating with chappals and sandals and then some inflammable material is thrown on me and I am set a aflame.
Things just dont end here for me, infact once I am set on fire people pound on me from all directions, kick me, throw me and get out all the ill feeling they have about some one out on me as if I was in real the person who they hated.
After some flashes by the media as I am set a blaze and I collapse down on the earth, where my end is near, the people who made me again shout slogans and leave me alone and walk away.
My mortal remains are then thrown away in a unruly and unacceptable manner by the Police usually on the side of the road where my life comes to an end, but I am happy to die, as I have come of some use to them, they may be “Marathi' or “Kannada'. Thats my story- Effigy.

Pray to the rain Gods
7:24 PM Posted by ukmad
For the past week or so Belgaumites are in the national media and all OB vans and reporters from unknown channels are also interviewing people in Belgaum.
But with all that hype around we will all need to Pray to Rain God, and if the rain god is not happy on us be sure you will face a lot of water woes in the year ahead.
See these figures which are Belgaum Taluka which are very disturbing.
In June Last Belgaum Taluka received 225 mm of rainfall while in 2010 we received 175.20 a shortfall of 50 mm.
In July 2009 Belgaum Taluka received 473 mm of rainfall and the worst till 15 July we have only received 2.1 mm of Rainfall.
This is a cause of concern. The Rakaskop reservoir which normally is full this time around still needs about 15 feet of water to get filled.
The District Rainfall(mm.) June July August September2005 217.4 334.2 190.3 225.22006 189.1 282.2 210.7 130.92007 275.9 220.2 189.6 165.72008 127 79.1 187.2 178.62009 113.7 391.3 185.1 220.9(1941-90) averages of rainfall 98.3 126.4 153 113.2
The above figures in the table are for Belgaum District and hence do not tally with the figures of Belgaum Taluka mentioned in the story above.
The farmers are also facing a huge problem infornt of them as they will be forced to resow as the current sow has not yet grown sufficiently.
Forecast: Scattered rainfall would occur over north Interior Karnataka with over cast sky.

AABs IT park story picked up by two dailies
6:42 PM Posted by ukmad
On 10 July, 2010 AAB published a report on the IT park- Belgaum IT park cum grazing ground
The same story with one image from the Story (cow grazing) was picked up and published in Sakal on 14-07-2010.
On 15-07-2010 we were surprised again to see the same cow appear in Indian Express with a similar tittle.
We at AAB believe that we are working on the right path of giving the readers good and solid material which is also original (most of the times). This has also happened in the past and we are proud of our readers that you got to know this story first than others.
We are not faltering ourselves, we cant do that, We dont have a massive team to work, but even then we do try to get you information which is fruitful.
Even we at AAB take copies from so many papers and sites but we also mention our source as a respect to the first person who wrote it, we also expected the same here.
Anyways readers, thanks for the support and we will try getting you reports earlier than others if possible.

SSI owners block roads for power supply
5:38 PM Posted by ukmad
In the past week or so, Belgaum has been witnessing some erratic power supply by HESCOM. Power is cut at any time and the entire timings come up to 6 to 8 hours.
The Small Scale industries association did a Rata Roko and blocked the road for a while in protest of this erratic power supply by HESCOM.
Industrialists complained that due to this erratic power supply all their manufacturing plans have been hit and many complained of more losses in production than normal due to sudden power cuts.
