D.B. Naik ZP CEO arrested by Lokayukta

The Lokayukta police carried out searches at several places include residences of five civil contractors. They recovered documents related to several “benami” properties, allegedly belonging to Mr. Naik. One of the contractors was found with documents related to 11 properties. Among the properties recovered, include 10 acres of land in Khanapur, some sites in Belgaum.
Records pertaining to Naik showing his alleged link with running of a first grade college in Mudhol have also been recovered.
Investigations led the Lokayukta police about Naik alleged abuse of his position as the Commissioner of Belgaum Urban Development Authority, which he held during 2005.
These kinds of raids and investigations are needed periodically to eradicate this Corruption from the system. Now what will happen to him is still to be seen. Original Story in The Hindu

Abhay Patil MLA arrested

The police on Friday arrested BJP MLA Abhay Kumar Patil and four of his supporters in connection with the attack on the Chief Engineer, Irrigation, North Zone, Belgaum, on Thursday. He was produced in the JMFC IV Court which granted him bail. The other accused Raju Patil, Rajendra Pawar, Deepak Jamkhandi and Sanjay Patil were also produced in the court which granted them bail.
Earlier, Various organisations condemned attack on irrigation official. Protest was organised by Karnataka State Engineering Service Association. Associations seek action against policemen for remaining mute to the attack.
A large number of employees of the Irrigation, Public Works and other State Government departments on Friday took out a procession in protest against the attack on S.S. Khanagavi, Chief Engineer of Irrigation, North Zone, and seeking the arrest of BJP MLA Abhay Kumar Patil here on Friday.

Two more terror suspects arrested

The APMC police Thursday arrested two more youths, Imtiaz Dalayat (21) and Nadeem Syed (20), suspected to have links with Nasir Liyaquat Ali Patel, a terror suspect who was arrested by the special squad on Tuesday.
With the arrest of Imtiaz and Nadeem, residents of Malmaruti Extension here, the total number of terror suspects arrested by the Belgaum police has gone up to four.
Nadeem and Imtiaz were produced before the JMFC IV Court and remanded in police custody till June 2.
