Border row: Bloggers want peace:Mid-Day Story- BelgaumBlog is the first on the list
11:42 AM Posted by ukmad
The Mid-Day has made a special story with inputs from various bloggers. I was surprised to see my sites link to be the first one. A small extract is also put on.
From The Mid-Day ---
The Belgaum border dispute between Maharastra and Karnataka has blogs reacting to the issue.
The prevailing feeling among the bloggers is that both the people and the authorities in both the states should exercise restraint and strive for peace.
This blogger (http://belgaumblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/belgaum-is-peaceful-but-not-belgaum.html ) is urging all the people concerned to keep calm. The blogger feels that an issue of 52 years can't be settled in a day.
In a post titled "Belgaum is peaceful, but not Belgaum issue", the blogger says:
"I would request all to maintain peace and harmony in the city and don't believe on rumors as they spread like fire they can cause a lot of trouble."
"In all it's a tough time for all of us. As the busses are not going into Maharsahtra and their busses not coming in Karnataka, many would now take cars for travelling, but that too could be dangerous for a day or two till all settles down," says the blogger, making a request to anyone with plans to go to Maharashtra or someone coming into Karnataka, be careful.

About 20 odd jawans are here and they visited all the police stations in the city.
See [IMAGE]Many were astonished to see the RAF men in Belgaum. However, this time the govt is not taking any chances, I guess. In addition, as in the past Belgaum has seen some terror related activities the central Govt has deployed them here.

Whenever you sign up with blogger or wordpress you get a sub domain i.e. belgaumblog.wordpress.com or belgaumblog.blogspot.com as I started and then it went on to become belgaumblog.com.
In addition to your bolg, Hyperwebenable provides you with various addon scripts like forums, CMS, image hosting or any scripts of your choice and lot and lots more. You don’t have know anything about it, they will all set it up and make it running, but yes you will need to write on the blog, they won’t do that for you.
And why would anyone in this world do all this for free? No they would place some ads on the blog that’s it and those ads will also be related to your blog site and posts. If your site generates more than 100 page views per day, then there are only 2 banners ads displayed in a web page. If your website gets less than 100 page views a day, 4 banner ads would be displayed in your web page.
And you can also earn from your blog by placing ads from different ad networks like Adsense etc.
To me this service has given me a platform to make a start and show the world about Belgaum. So guys get going.. Check the free website and blog service at http://www.hyperwebenable.com/

Help build “Brand Belgaum”

I have few comments to share and apply
All the boards should be in Kannada, Marathi and English, because Belgaum is a cosmopolitan city, I appeal KRV activist to respect value for living and respect for Human beings and Belgaumites, Respect for your fellow neighbors no matter Who they are Kannada Marathi Urdu or any other language.
The fort at Belgaum entrance is at Mess create a small city private terminal for Buses and with proper infrastructure like landscape garden and also the small dwellers hawkers can have galas with much better waste disposal facility, who are now encroaching the road side areas at Bus stand.
The Belgaum bus stand needs to be revived. Move the divisional workshop (Main depot no 1) to outskirts and expand the bus station with more platforms. Connect a foot over bridge with city bus station.
BUDA should take control of uneven growth of New Gandhi nagar towards Railway track. In addition, make a proper plan for sanitation and water, draining. BUDA and the city corporation should look at maintaining the play gardens and parks much more nicely may be with the help of a public private partnership.
Float a green earth policy, plant at least one tree a month in your locality, have public youth forums in doing so. For this involvement of school children and making them understand from a tender age can have good impact on them and also as a society as a whole.
Move the vegetable wholesale market near fort and one behind Sankam residencey to APMC, with proper infrastructure or to the Proposed Food and Agriculture Park at Belgaum.
The Vaccine Depot is being created into natures paradise add up recreation facilities for children like toy train and boating, bird watching. Hope this happens in reality and not only on paper.
We have good number of MLA’s and MP’s but Belgaum Gokak road, which starts from Mahantesh Nagr is in total mess the Belgaum task force should see to make four lane city access road till Ramteerth or Ashte.
The Belgaum cantonment board should widen the roads with divider in-between, Sanchayani circles to Station cross. Also should be come part of this task force. The worst roads this time are in parts governed by the Cantonment like Congress road and interior roads of camp are all in very bad shape, something needs to be done very urgently there.
There is much more, active people have knowledge and info pertaining to their respective areas and also nitty gritties of their localities so do come forward share and we would take them to government bodies, I 100% aliases with my blog buddy UkMaD and his blog Belgaumblog.com for his “Brand Belgaum” concept and I hope it would start from here.
If all this happens in time, then “Brand Belgaum” would be successful. Put your hands together, Come out and say “ I am a Belgaumite” and I am for “Brand Belgaum”.

MES rebel, his supporters face wrath of Marathi people
8:11 AM Posted by ukmad
They were not allowed to pay tributes at a memorial in Hindalga
Leader of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi who unsuccessfully contested the Assembly
elections as a rebel candidate and his supporters faced the wrath of Marathi-speaking people at Hindalga near here on Sunday on the occasion of “Hutatma Divas” (martyr’s day).
Marathi-speaking people led by MES have been observing June 1 as martyr’s day since 1986 to pay tributes to eight people who were killed in police firing.
The MES had organised a “satyagraha” on June 1, 1986 to oppose the State Government’s decision to make Kannada a compulsory language in schools. Marathi-speaking people had joined the agitation in large numbers and resorted to violence. Eight people were killed in police firing in Hindalga, Belgundi and Uchagaon villages and Old Belgaum city areas.Later, a memorial was built at Hindalga where MES leaders and Marathi-speaking people pay homage to them every year.
Trouble broke out on Sunday when B.I. Patil, former MES MLA and Belgaum taluk unit president, Ramesh Gangaram Pawale, who contested as MES rebel candidate from Belgaum North, Suresh Dhokre, Ninguji Huddar and Manoj Pause arrived at Hindalga to pay tributes at the memorial. Residents of the village shouted slogans against them and termed them as “gaddars” (traitors). The MES was drubbed in the elections, which is being seen as an “historic defeat” in its electoral war against Karnataka Government and Kannadigas.
The residents said, “The ‘gaddars’ have no right to touch the portraits of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of unity of Marathi-speaking people.”
Later, the police arrived at the scene and took control of the situation. However, Mr. Patil and the four others had to return without paying tributes to the martyrs.
