Shiv Jayanti celebrated with great huge participation

A large number of people had gathered along the route of the procession to witness the celebrations. In fact the turnout this time was quite large than earlier years and a notable factor this must be the Shivaji Serial going on TV.

All went off safely but there was a spat amongst the Police and the Organizers on the issue of putting up a controversial banner which was tied to a tractor, had given a call to Marathis to keep alive the issues pertaining to border and saffron flag, "which are pride of Marathis" which belonged to Bhandur Galli. The police asked the rally organizers to remove the banner and chaos prevailed for a while. Later SP Sonia Narang allowed the banner after removal of some parts of the script.

Congress MLA Feroz Sait, MLA Abhay Kumar Patil, MLA Sanjay Patil and Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi leaders Deepak Dalvi and T.K. Patil were present.

Ramdev Galli and Maruti Galli were full of people even at 1.30 at night. Kids were enjoying the whole show and were shouting Jai Shivaji all the while.

All cities have something very unique and the Shiv Jayanti procession is just another unique event in the lives of Belgaumites. Procession will start at 6pm.

It was to be held in the last week but due to the Election code of conduct it was deferred for today.

The procession will include various youth clubs and associations presenting and depicting some important parts of the life of Shivaji Mharaj in a lively form. Procession will begin from Nargundkar Bhave Circle, Mruti Galli, Ramdev Galli, Bogarves, Ramling Khind Galli, Tahshildar Galli and will finally end at Shivaji garden.

Police have been called in from other districts for the occasion. 25 CCTV cameras will monitor the whole procession and Ridhi Vision the local cable channel will telecast this live.

Bizarre way of Holi celebration on Deshmukh road

9:41 PM Posted by ukmad

The colorful Holi is over in major parts of the city. Shahpur will play on Sunday, Rangpanchami.
The most happening road, Deshmukh road has a bizarre way of celebrating holi, you must have seen the same in the video posted earlier on this blog.
Nothing was different today either, same old tearing of clothes and throwing them on the wires along the road.
See the photos take by Team AllaboutBelgaum which shows you the how bizarre the scene must have been in the morning. You can see clothes hanging on the wires along the road. In one picture you can see a middle aged man sitting down looking at these pieces of clothes lying on the road.I remember this to have started when I was in college i.e. in 1994-95 period may it had started earlier but even then it was a bizarre scene and nothing has changed with time.

Love under police protection: V day all was normal

8:29 PM Posted by ukmad

This year’s Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a fear factor in mind by the youngsters. There was police presence at all the colleges and important hang out points and circles. No major incident I got to know about all went off peacefully.
The Shri Ram Sene also organized a rally from JNMC to RPD.
I met a few who said they will celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow.
The Shiv Sena burnt the Valentine’s Day cards in front of Gogte College it was a part of the rally they took out from RPD corner. In all as there was preventive arrest made of Pramod Muthalik in Gulburga yesterday things were subdued today.
There was police presence at all the colleges which was quite abnormal for many.
