Roads, potholes and animals how to drive safely

The two photos below tell the story by themselves.

Khanapur road
Khanapur road

Cows sitting the middle of Khanapur road, just besides the divider and making the commuters take a sudden halt in front of them as to give them some respect and take a diversion and see at them and pass by. Similar scenes are seen at many places in city. Bogarves, Govaves are common places for these scenes.

The second picture is of the wonderful potholes that have been created by the little rain in August. Most roads were BIG pot hole free but as nothing was done to keep them good, now the roads are taking its own course. This picture take on congress road opposite Sheetal Rasvanti grih says it all. There are few more on the same road. No one has bothered to even fill them up.

Its Ganesh festival time and people will be now planning to move out to see the Ganesh Idols and I would like to caution then if it has rained, be sure “Daag Ache Hain’ as some potholes have been filled up with mud especially in places like the Market, interiors of Shahpur, Vadagaon. I experienced the same yesterday when I was travelling all over to get photos of Ganesh idols.

Old Dharwad road to be 60 feet

8:47 PM Posted by ukmad

MLA Abhay Patil had drawn up a plan to widen the Old Dharwad road to 100 feet from Fort to highway cross. The work will start after the rains.

The local residents and businessmen staged agitations and now the plan will be to make it a 60 feet road and all the people who will lose their property due to the widening will be reimbursed.

The planned and hyped over bridge on Fort road towards Roopali theatre on Dharwad road is now being scrapped as the said road is being widened. The local residents however still demand a over bridge as they even if the road is widened the hardships of the railway gate will only be overcome by making a over bridge.

Diversions, Traffic woes and top it on Pilot VIP vehicles

8:32 PM Posted by ukmad

The roads are being re laid and hence the have been blocked from one side and hence the traffic is moving on a snails pace on Khanapur Road, From Cantonment Office towards Bogarves.

I was behind some 30 odd trucks and busses in a line, which were all moving at a very slow pace to the standard of Belgaum. Suddenly to add to all it a loud siren is heard and all look behind thinking it to be a ambulance and to give way to it, but when they see it’s a Pilot car of VIP all just look at him and no one moved.

The pilot car overtook me and went forward even when we all were stranded. The scene was nice when a truck from the front came in and the pilot car was stranded in the middle with nowhere to go. The siren was still on and was very annoying. The pilot car some how managed to make through the traffic and then zoomed out with the VIP.

We elect these politicians and they become VIPs and we the common man who elect them have to suffer.
This scene of traffic woes due to VIP vehicles will only increase in the days to come, especially from Chennama circle to KLE.

Road from Bogarves to Khanapur road (PWD limit near the old age home) has been completed. Now it is a smooth ride.

Belgaum session will be historic

4:50 PM Posted by ukmad

The session in Belgaum will be a historic one providing constructive reformation to North Karnataka.
The agenda mostly would be surrounding the problems and projects of North Karnataka though issues concerning the entire State would also will be discussed.
Arrangements for holding the Session were on at a brisk pace.
Tight security will be provided during the session. The State Government had released Rs 10.48 crore for the session. This included repairing roads and other infrastructure.
As already covered by the blog, the infrastructure improvements are on a brisk pace. The standard may not be good but to suffice for the moment it’s a boon to the city.
All those Highmast lamps installed last year which were never looked after are now being repaired, another good sign. Tough the street lights in many areas don’t glow in the night.
The work on the international stadium near Kanbargi has caught pace (Source: shoutbox on site) which is indeed a good thing.
The opposition congress is against this session, if it was the BJP in opposition it would have done the same thing so opposition is opposition.
But all those coming into Belgaum from 10th January till 24 January be very particular about your hotel booking and train booking you might not get it easily, especially hotel bookings.

Rains playing Fear Factor in Belgaum

12:04 PM Posted by ukmad

The rains are causing fear in the minds of people. Until last week, all were praying the rains to come and now that rains are pouring, people are praying otherwise.

The whole of Sunday it rained heavily, rainfall recorded was 37.5 mm. All the gutters and drains were over flowing. Water had inundated a few low lying areas like Shastri nagar etc. Even water had entered a few houses.

In the morning, parts of maratha Colony were under water but after an hour the water receded. When I spoke to a few persons in Maratha Colony they all had kept their Cars on Congress Road, some at their friends place somewhere else. I was one amongst them all to keep my car and scooters on congress road away from my house so that they do not swim. (My car and scooters have swimed for two occasions in the past) I saw a few houses in Chennama Nasgar 1st stage where water had entered the compounds, as the drains had nowhere to go.

Heavy rains have now taken a toll on the roads also. Some of the few good roads that were remaining have now some big potholes. Fear Factor is on the roads now. Skidding of bikers on the top loose khadi is common on almost all roads. Commuters try to skip some potholes and ride the wrong way causing trouble for other commuters. The scene is the same all over the city. I had planned to write on the bad roads, instead I should only mention the good roads, that would be easy and a small list.
I will get you some pictures of the wonderful potholes in a day's time. In the mean time if you have some send them, I will post them here.
