The mysterious divider is back in its original place, thanks to the members of the Rajiv Gandhi Brigade.

Members of the brigade on themselves replaced the stones of the divider and also put concrete and big stones and re-laid the divider.

Congress road should be declared Accident zone

4:24 PM Posted by ukmad

Today at 2.05pm two motorcycles collided with each other injuring one seriously and two others.

The accident occurred near Arun Theatre on Congress Road (the cross road towards hotel Panchamrut). A motorcyclist coming in full speed from First gate towards military Mahadev collided with another motorcyclist who was coming wrong side on the same road trying to go towards first gate.

The police immediately came in and fortunately a Police jeep was passing by which took the injured to hospital. The 108 ambulance which was called in by on lookers came later.

Residents of the area demanded that speed breakers be put up near the side roads approaching the Congress road so that such accidents done take place. Similar accidents have take place many a times on the same road and most of the time they go unreported and hence nothing is done by the authorities, Santosh Purohit a local resident told this blog. There are as many as 8 cross roads on Congress road from Military Mahadev to first railway gate.

Commuters on Congress road normally are in full speed and suddenly when some vehicle comes in cross the road either they collide or skid after applying brakes urgently.

Mysterious divider

This is strange story of divider, which disappears as soon as the cops who replaced it went off.

Yellow line marked shows the divider removed
Yellow line marked shows the divider removed

The spot is between 2 and 3rd gate near the Shantesha Motors. The beginning of the story, there was a divider from second gate to Gogte’s house where there is a break in the divider to go to R C Nagar.

Recently with the blessings of a high profile, person the divider was removed from the spot. People complained that this will cause accidents and hence the divider was replaced. Again after sometime the divider were removed and this time speed breakers were put on the main roads near the spot.

A couple of days back the Traffic police took notice of the situation and decided to do away with the speed breakers and re install the divider, but as soon as the police went off the divider also. This is causing many hardships and can cause major accidents as trucks and heavy vehicles from Udyambag side pass from here.

Why the high profile person is interested in removing the divider so often is a mystery. Why does not the authorities take strict action against the ones who is removing the dividers?

Monsoon special Rs.3 Vada Pav Tea Rs.2

10:57 AM Posted by ukmad

Inflation has gone negative but the prices of food items have risen above expectations. Vegetables are now at an all time high.

With all this behind, the Pop in restaurant near Military Mahadev has started this Monsoon special offer. Vada Pav for Rs.3 and Tea for Rs.2.

A make shift stall has been erected just at the corner of the Kagal cross on Congress road. The stall is very picturesquely situated as there is the pond of water which is full now in the back ground and coconut trees on one side. This offer is catching up on passersby and day one there was not much response but now there is good response to the offer. The same is also very visible from the numbers of vehicles seen in the photo. The Vada pav stall runs from early morning to late evenings and is catching up with the passing crowd.

I could not go to taste the same, but many of you can do and let us all know about the taste as well. Happy eating.

Military Mahadev Temple Belgaum

6:43 PM Posted by ukmad

In town like Belgaum there are not many places where one can unwind and also not many gardens where kids can play.

Since a long time, I have played there and most of you also must have gone there once to play and of course many a times to pray, I am speaking about Military Mahadev Temple, Congress road.

Not many photo graphs are there of the same and I have somehow managed to get these photos, from an unknown source who mailed me these pictures.

So here are some exclusive pictures:

Accident yet again on Congress Road

8:55 PM Posted by ukmad

Truck bearing No. KA 48 6062 coming from Gogte Circle going towards 1st gate hit a Tricycle moped on congress Road and injured one. Accident occurred at 8.35pm.

This particular accident, occurred near the Maratha Colony cross (ARUN) on Congress Road; when a tricycle moped broke down in the middle of the road and a young lad came to help move the tricycle from the main road to the side. When this truck ramped in from behind and the young lad was injured mostly on his back as the steel bar at the back of on the tricycle was smashed up. The driver of the tricycle however escaped without any injuries. The driver and cleaner of the truck ran away from the spot. The injured was rushed to the civil hospital in an auto.

The said truck has been brought aside with the help other truck drivers and now is kept at the Maratha Colony cross road.

Congress road is becoming a accident zone and at least 2-3 minor accidents occur on the road. The police needs to look at this seriously and take some measures to check the speed of vehicles on the road even when the Max speed limit is 40 kmph.

The truck was moved to the Traffic police station at 9.48pm

Tree uprooted on Congress Road

An old tree uprooted last night at around 1 am and blocked the entire one side of the road. The tree an old one fell exactly opposite Madiwale Buildings on Congress road (near Nanawadi cross).

Till morning no one had come to clean up, the locals residing nearby were cutting the tree and taking away the wood for use as fire wood.

Congress Road: Accident zone drive carefully

4:33 PM Posted by ukmad

In an accident, today at 2.30pm on Congress road (opp. Arun theatre) the two wheeler was caught up at the back of a city bus.

In the photo it is clear that the city bus was about to stop at the bus shelter when the two wheeler from behind ramped in.
There were no serious injuries to the driver of the two wheeler, but this raises the question of safe driving on Congress Road.

Many don’t know that Congress road is a accident prone zone, everyday or alternate days there is some minor accident that occurs around the Arun theatre area. Most of these cases go un registered as the cause of accident is skidding on most occasions or just minor bruises to both humans and vehicles. The speed limit is 40 kph on Congress road but no one adheres to it and this is main cause of accidents. There are a lot of side roads from where traffic joins the main congress road which is again a cause of worry.

If any of you have suffered on the road or have seen similar scenes, do leave a comment.

Patch Work Scrap work: Comparison

1:06 PM Posted by ukmad

Continuing with my last story of Patch Work Scrap work posted yesterday, see these two pictures.

One taken today and the other one was taken during the visit of L K Advani to the city when the same road was patched.
Can you spot the difference between the two, I at least can’t.
This is how the same road is patched twice in 2 months and the end result is the same.
This is how the Govt. builds our infrastructure. And you see those big ads on TV and print media asking us to pay our advance tax and income tax so that the govt. Will patch the same road twice in 2 months and the end result march end one more patch work.

Road Patchwork; scrap work

9:39 PM Posted by ukmad

The Congress Road from Military Mahadev to Gogte Circle is in very bad shape. It was half patched when L K Advani had visited Belgaum. However, the work was very shoddy.

Today evening I was surprised to see the road being closed and board put up road closed work in progress.

Nevertheless, when I saw what was going it was disheartening. Potholes were being with boulders & red mud and KHADI which is used to make the whole road and small Khadi which is used to put up on the road was being sprinkled on the patched up pot hole.
Ye India Kab sudhrega? Kab ? Jab hum sab Sudhernge aur we vote and elect good and able persons on the civic authorities and state and national levels.

Congress Road in bad shape

AICC leader responsible for Kudachi being denied ticket?

9:52 AM Posted by ukmad

Source The Hindu:
Vijaykumar Patil
Kudachi defeated MES candidates in 1999 and 2004
He has joined JD(S) and is contesting in the same segment

Even as some tend to point figures at senior Congress leader and former Minister A.B. Patil for the Congress having denied ticket to two-time MLA Ramesh L. Kudachi to contest from Belgaum North, there is none to unravel the hidden faces behind the development.

Sources close to Mr. Kudachi told The Hindu here on Wednesday that a senior leader in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) from Maharashtra had deliberately denied ticket to the former to help the MES in Belgaum North. The sources said that the AICC leader had personally told Mr. Kudachi not to insist on ticket this time.
The MES, which was defeated twice by Mr. Kudachi in the 1999 and 2004 Assembly elections, is trying hard to re-capture its lost bastion. But, it would have been difficult for the MES to have its candidate elected as long as Mr. Kudachi continued to contest as Congress candidate. Therefore, the MES was keen to see that Mr. Kudachi did not get party ticket and therefore, took the help of the AICC leader from Maharashtra.

Mr. Kudachi, who quit the Congress after being denied ticket and joined the Janata Dal(S) on Wednesday, is all set to contest from Belgaum North as the latter’s candidate. He took the decision not in a haste but after being convinced that there was no justice in the Congress, which was not prepared to honour his services and contribution. He said it was under his leadership that the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi was shown the door for the first time in the 1999 Assembly elections and again in 2004. This was history in its own right as Belgaum city had been an impregnable fortress of the MES or the Marathi-speaking community since the 1957 elections.

He was also confident of being elected for the third time, which meant a precious seat for Congress which is hoping to form the government on its own in the State. But the leaders in the party were not prepared to do justice to his services, he alleged.
He, however, also maintained that the AICC leader from Maharashtra was fully responsible for denying him ticket only to please the MES. But in the process he [AICC leader] did not realise that the Congress could lose one precious seat, he said.

Belgaum getting something Nice this new year

2:48 PM Posted by ukmad

This is no ordinary wall nor a wall of a Fort, its the wall on the ground next to Military Mahadev, which now holds the replicas of all the Shiva Kalin Forts. This is the outer wall of the same.
In this photo you can see the development work going on inside. In between the replicas of the various forts a new Bronze Statue of Shivaji Maharaj will be put up. The statue is estimated to cost Rs.51 lakhs. The MLIRC has contributed a few and taken care of building all the other infrastructiure needed. Whereas donations have been taken from the general public for the Shivaji Statue.
In fact a few solar street lamps have been fitted already in the area to check the lighting. The Statue is expected to come in the coming weeks and this new year Belgaumites will have something very attractive to see at.
