11 more suspects of H1N1 in Belgaum

10:50 AM Posted by ukmad

11 more suspects of H1N1 were found in Belgaum and their swab was sent for testing to NIMHANS. Reports of earlier tests should reach by today evening by only when there could be a confirmation on the existence of the virus in town.

On general all is calm, but a few people are seen wearing surgical masks and scarfs on their faces. Screening is being done at Bus stand and railway station but it is just like another Govt. job where anyone can bypass at ease. No doubt the district administration claims to have setup screening at bus stands and railway station, on Wednesday there was no one at 5.30 am in the morning at the bus stand for screening a commuter from Pune told. Most interestingly none of the private buses coming in from Pune and Mumbai were screened. After the death of a lady in Bangalore the administration has become stricter of sorts and is now screening more effectively. Around 217 have been screened at the bus stand for Swine flu.

There are no N 95 masks available in city as of now and a demand for the same has been made by the administration. So if you want to you will have to use the surgical masks. A mask which was priced at Rs.10 is now being sold for 20 to 30. Also there is news that people from Maharashtra have bought masks in wholesale in the last week from Belgaum which has caused shortage of masks in the city.

Swine flu scare all over Belgaum has medical teams at railway station

4:30 PM Posted by ukmad

With the rising toll of swine flu deaths in the country each one is now concerned about his/her safety especially people in the most affected town like Pune, Mumbai etc.

Pune is barely 350 kms from Belgaum and there is heavy inflow of visitors from Pune into Belgaum on a daily basis.
District administration has deployed medical teams at railway stations and bus stands in the city and in border areas to examine passengers arriving from Maharashtra. More than 500 people were scanned for the scary virus but not even a single case has been reported yet.

But the urgency and effective scanning is missing. The bus stand team worked just for an hour on Sunday afternoon. Only 15 passengers who came from Maharashtra were attended to. Trains from Pune arrive in Belgaum at 9.15 am, 1.25 pm and 12.45 am, but the team only examined passengers of morning train.

The KLE’s Prabhakar Kore hospital has already kept itself ready with a 9 bed isolated ward for Swine flu patients. It has also kept its team of doctors ready for an emergency.

All schools and colleges have been closed for 7 days in Pune and all malls and cinemas as well for 3 days, so what will the Punite do now, he should take rest in house as Doctors suggest.

The flow of visitors from Pune might increase due to this. The district administration must be geared up and cautious always to stop the virus at the border only.

Operation PIG

5:04 PM Posted by ukmad

Swine flu breakout I the world have made the Belgaum city corporation to take on the Pigs in the city.  It was the dogs earlier & now it is the turn of the pigs.

Mahantesh Nagar , Anagol, Auto Nagar Khasbag, Rukmini Nagar, Gandhi Nagar are the most affected areas by pig nuisance.  Pigs roam freely in the gutters and on main roads. The BCC had taken up a pig clean up drive earlier but was stopped.

The BCC is issuing notices to pig breeders about this and it seems the civic body is not going to take any chances, as swine flu is spreading day by day.
