Belgaum ATS sleeping: Waiting for a Attack on the city

4:30 PM Posted by ukmad

Those 60 hours everyone was glued to the TV screen to know what’s happening in Mumbai. Now that one chapter is over and the 2nd rounds of political deaths around have a look at the Belgaum ATS.
We have yet been not a part to an attack but no one in this country is safe, now that Mr.Chidambaram is home minister we should just hope that he brings down Terrorism just has he brought down Share prices.
Though Belgaum is a known ‘sleeping cell’ for Islamic terrorists, the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) located in the city doesn’t have the teeth to fight or tackle possible terrorist attacks.
Established about six months ago, the ATS staff does not possess modern weapons, bulletproof jackets or even the necessary vehicles. Even the staff is not trained to the required standards to face terrorists. Then why call it ATS?
The ATS does not have a separate office from where it can work. At present, the civil police staff is used for ATS operations. It does not also have a professional informers’ network.
Belgaum is believed to be a ‘stopover’ for terrorists going to or coming from Mumbai. ATS sources confirmed to this website's newspaper that often, terrorists come to Belgaum to hide, after bomb blasts in Maharashtra.
Belgaum has been a den of terrorists since long. The arrest of terrorists - Liyaquat Abdulganni Sayyed, Naseer Ahmed Liyaquat Ali Patel, Nadeem Abdul Raheem Sayeed, Imtiaz Dalayat, Ijaz Hussain, Tanveer Mulla, Iqbal Ahmed Jakati and several others in Belgaum, while they were planning to cause violence in the city as well as in the district, speaks volumes about the growing terror activity in the region. During interrogation, they revealed that terrorists had also planned to blast a polling booth near Tilakwadi during the 2008 Assembly elections. One of the top terrorists Dr Munroz, who was arrested in Indore a couple of months ago, hails from Belgaum. A more shocking revelation was that these terrorists had also planned to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi when he addressed the public in Belgaum during the Assembly election campaign.
Even after such serious developments, the state government has not woken up. They are not trained even to identify terrorists, let alone fight them. A senior officer told to this website's newspaper that the staff posted for ATS were mostly those considered ‘unwanted’ in the police department or those transferred as a means of punishment.
In case of a bomb threat, the ATS staff does not have the expertise even to detect explosives. Though they have the necessary equipment, they are not trained in their use.
ATS has just 11 members, a ridiculously low number, given that it is there to fight high-profile terrorists.
Sources said that the ATS had already submitted a proposal to the Home Minister requesting him to provide modern weapons and bulletproof jackets for the staff, apart from increasing their numbers substantially with trained personnel. Its proposal, however, is lying in cold storage.
After reading all this you will feel ashamed on any government, its only acts when something happens. All governments have been reactive, they should be proactive. They will only get up when something happens. Wake up politicians, WE need security, you live in full fledged security but what about the common man.
Your thoughts are a must please comment; speak out, if you don’t speak now you will never then.

'Suspected terrorist is a jihadi activist'

4:58 PM Posted by ukmad

Dear Belgaumites, I am really filled with sorrow to post such posts on my blog. Such a wonderful and peaceful city is now the hub of terrorist activities. Kindly post your comments on this issue on this blog.
Come lets make Belgaum a safer and better place.

Source The New Indian Express
Suspected Islamic terrorist Liyakatali Sayeed, who was arrested on May 14 from his house at Kusru Nagar in Malmaruti extension, is a dedicated Jihad activist.

Sources close to the this website’s newspaper said that Liyakatali was involved in Jihadi activities and tried his best to misguide and motivate educated Muslim youths in Belgaum to join the cause.

Liyakatali, who had returned to Belgaum from London nine months ago, had succeeded in influencing a few Muslim youth. After striking up a friendship with them, he would show them CDs of atrocities on Muslims across the world, telling them to adopt 'tit for tat' methods.

According to sources, a few young Muslims responded positively to Liyakatali. It is said that he provoked the youth to take revenge for the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat. He also took part in the protest rally against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at Rani Channamma Circle on October 30, 2007. He had covered his face to shield his identity. The video clippings, which are in police possession, have confirmed Liyakatali's participation in the agitation. He was seen shouting slogans to hang Modi, according to sources.Sources said that Liyakatali identified a few images when the police showed him the video clippings.
From Deccan Herald
Liyakat had produced an LPG bomb at a house in Azam Nagar before carrying it to Shindholli for the `ignition test.'
However, the police are unable to find since how long Liyakat has been engaged in these activities. He was in London for many years running his security agency before coming to Belgaum to attend his sister's marriage, which was held recently. The top police officials have declined to comment on whether Liyakat had been involved in such activities even before he landed in India.

Meanwhile, Nasir Patel, another arrested was produced to Court in Belgaum on Saturday. After being in police custody for sometime, he has not been remanded to the judicial custody. A resident of Azam Nagar, Nasir Patel had stored objectionable information and literature in his PC.
Involvement:
President of Rashtriya Hindustan Sena Pramod Mutalik has alleged that at least three police officials in Belgaum are involved in abetting the suspected terrorists. He said his association had already informed the names of the three officials to the higher authorities.Mr Mutalik also said several areas in Belgaum were housing muslims of Bangladesh origin. These areas, he alleged had become a haven for terror activities and called upon authorities concerned to drive all residents staying illegally in Belgaum.
Spare innocents:
Several muslim leaders of Belgaum led by the Belgaum (North) MLA, Feroz Sait met Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar on Saturday to ensure that none of the innocent youth were affected in the process of investigation

Belgaum - A ‘sleeping cell’ for terrorists

According to highly-placed police sources, Belgaum city is a 'sleeping cell' for Islamic terrorists in Karnataka, Maharashtra and other states.A top officer who spoke with The New Indian Express from New Delhi said that Islamic terrorists feel that Belgaum is the safest haven to chalk out their activities to destabilise the government machinery in several other states.

"These terrorists come to Belgaum to hide, and after a few days, they move on," he said. The Union Home Ministry is aware of these developments, and it cannot be ruled out that a few leaders are also 'helping' these fundamentalists, he said. Help may be in the form of money or organising their discourses in the district, he added.

The locals often do not know that they belong to banned organisations like SIMI or Deenadar."In the coming days, the city may become a safe hide-out for terrorists," the officer said. The Union Home Ministry also knows that some people in certain areas of city have 'connections' with the terrorists. Because of lack of evidence, the police are unable to book them, he said. The Home Ministry agrees that SIMI activists are more active in districts like Bijapur, Gulburga and Bangalore. Though their numbers are small in Belgaum, they are slowly inducting the youths, the report warns.
Meanwhile the Express contacted IGP (North), Raghavendra Auradkar, who said that the police are keeping a strict vigil on all foreign students in Belgaum on student visas. The police will visit colleges and check the attendance of foreign students, he said. Auradkar said that the police are also keeping a watch on the deep jungles located around Belgaum as there were possibilities of holding terrorist educative camps there. As Belgaum is surrounded by three states - Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa, terrorists believe that it is the safest place to hide. terrorists.
