Shops robbed again why scores of robberies

7:44 AM Posted by ukmad

In the past few months, the number of housebreaks and shop robberies reported has increased more than two folds.

Just see this as a trailer; on Sunday 2 shops near millennium gardens were robbed for about Rs.50 thousand. On Monday the Universal store at Kadolkar galli was looted for again the similar amount.

Almost everyday these incidents are happening in town and citizens are now worried as to what is the police doing in this matter and why is that suddenly such incidents are on a rise. I do not have the complete list of robberies as of now but the number in the recent past is alarming.

See Deshmukh road alone, three shops were looted a few days back, which included Purohit sweet shop, a few days later the Nokia showroom at the beginning of Shukurwar peth was robbed for. Police station is less than 150 meters from the spot but still the robbers are free doing their job.

Private security agencies have a very good business ins this time and to add a black spot to them as well, allegedly a security guard himself looted in a college recently.

In all the citizens need to be more vigil and protect their own property.

Police launch Crime Prevention month: safety tips issued

10:01 AM Posted by ukmad

The Belgaum district police has launched the Crime prevention month and has laid down the following safety tips to all.
According to Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang, residents should avoid keeping large amounts of cash and valuable ornaments in their houses and instead opt for safety lockers in banks.

They should install a door with iron bars inside their house, superior quality night latches and special eye lens on the main door.

Ideally, interaction with strangers and vendors should be through the grilled door.

High wattage light source with pilfer proof cover outside the main door should be installed for better illumination around the house.

While they go outstation, residents should not only inform their nearest police station but also their neighbors.

To take precaution against chain-snatchers, women going for a morning or evening walk should cover ornaments properly with their sari or dupatta.

They should not entertain unscrupulous elements coming home under the pretext of cleaning/polishing golden ornaments and other valuables.

Persons traveling in auto rickshaws should note down the registration number of the vehicles before boarding them.

She said the residents should check the antecedents/credentials of security guards and domestic servants before hiring them. They should insist on references and photographs.

They can also furnish particulars of domestic help and guards to the police.

They should avoid discussing money transactions and other important family matters in the presence of servants and outsiders.

People should be vigilant and inform the police about suspicious happenings or unclaimed objects found in suspicious circumstances and strangers moving suspiciously in their areas.

Thoughts on this please. Even after doing all this something happens who will take the responsibility, common people or the police or the Govt.

108 Ambulance service in Belgaum

4:17 PM Posted by ukmad

The 108 Emergency Response Service (ERS), now enters Belgaum.

The project covers medical, fire and police emergencies all in a single number. The need for such a service arises because the country lacks a systematic ERS, prevalent in the developed countries of the world.
The EMRI has thus proved to be a boon. It was born in the context of the ineffective co-ordination among multiple emergency response systems in the country coupled with an inadequate legal framework. To top it all, there was an absence of a single emergency number, trauma care facilities and basic life support ambulances. All these bottlenecks led the genesis of the EMRI.
So the next time there is an emergency the number to call is 108.

How the system works?

PRICELESS: The idol of Goddess Lakshmi which was recovered from the arrested persons.
The Belgaum Police busted an inter-State antique smuggling racket and seized a priceless copper-brass idol of Goddess Lakshmi Devi and three persons on Friday.
Quoting antique experts who were shown the idol immediately, Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar said the idol was at least 700 years old and resembled the artefact created under the Chola rulers of South India. The idol would be handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India for further investigation.
He said that acting on a tip off, a team of city police officials kept constant watch on the movements of the accused and arrested them while they were carrying the idol near Argan Talab on Belgaum-Hindalga Road.
The names of the arrested persons were given as Asgar Ali (35) and Vilas (45), both from Uchagaon in Belgaum taluk, and Lakshman (42) of Koulge in Chandgad taluk of Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. The police also seized two motorcycles from the accused.
He said the accused, who had procured the idol from Trichy in Tamil Nadu, had struck a fresh deal with a local agent for Rs. 1.50 crore. Another deal was being worked for Rs. 10 crore with an antique dealer in the country, suspected to be in Mumbai, he said. The police would find out whether the accused were involved in similar cases in the State and elsewhere and also about their links.
