Amboli Calling

12:41 PM Posted by ukmad

Rainy season is one of the dullest seasons for tourism but there are some places one should only visit when it’s raining and one such beautiful place is Amboli.falls

Amboli is not new to any Belgaumite, that fog on the road, that chilly weather, rains showers in between and of course greenery all round.

Amboli is 70 kms from Belgaum and is a best day out picnic spot around and is very popular amongst the young. People reading this must have gone there once at least, if not don’t miss it; this is the best time of the year.  amboli

Amboli falls in the Sindhudurg District and the latter has received good rainfall in the past week or so which means all water falls in Amboli will now be at their paramount.kawalesad-point-amboli

Amboli is a perfect destination for relaxing and getting lost among the misty mountains.

The other attractions of Amboli are Hiranya Keshi, Nagatta Falls, Mahadev and Narayan Gad, Shirgaonkar, Sea view Point and the Bauxite Mines.

Hiranya Keshi is a famous fishing ground where hours could be spent in solitude and quietness. Nagatta Falls offer a perfect picnic place. With a breathtaking view of Nagatta Falls, this is a perfect place to escape with your family.

Sea View Point offers the most wonderful view one has ever seen. The long stretch of the mountains and lands extending to the Konkan coast is an experience to be cherished lifelong. sunset

And of course if you want to experience something different, Bauxite Mines are a must visit for you. Just about 10 km away, this place has a pleasant scenic beauty.

A couple of years ago there were not many hotels other than the JRD international but now there are many hotels come up and resorts as well where you can make a comfortable stay overnight and see the nature in the wee hours of the morning. Pure Veg hotel like the one a top the hill of Vithal Kamat is also a good one for food. There are many others near the bus stand and earlier as well. Many resorts are after the check post and also there are small houses with boards which are state approved rest places “bed n breakfast’ you can check them as well.

July to September is the ideal time to go there as it will be raining and thick fog will make walking a pleasure.

A note of  caution for the travelers, it is normally seen that the young college going crowds are there in huge numbers and many of them drunk which can cause you trouble so be prepared to handle tight situations. Police is normally deployed near the Falls where the crowd is the maximum. There are other various points as well where you can enjoy the nature.

All the photos are archives taken from the internet.

 So when are you AMBOLI-ing!

Beautiful picnic trekking spot near Belgaum Nersa and Godholi

In my constant endeavor to give readers information, which others do not, here is another effort on the same lines.

Belgaum is situated very near to nature and many spots near about 40 kms from the city are unknown to many and undiscovered.

Here is one great spot.

This is the beautiful picnic / trekking spot.

 Nersa

It is just 40 kms. Away from Belgaum and 15 kms from Khanapur.

This is MANDAVI River, which flows to Goa. This Place is after Nersa, which is 15 kms away from Khanapur.

 How to reach there:

40 kms from Belgaum 15 kms from Khanapur.

After Khanapur, take a right turn. Lot of banana plantation is going on due to ample water availability. You can park your vehicle just after Nersa and either go walking or take a vehicle from Nersa because road condition is worst.

There are locals there who can help you get vehicles, to be on the safer side it is suggested to do a pilot trip first and then one could go along with a huge group. You won’t get anything to eat so take along all your food and water, if you want go there cook you can do that also.

The best time to go there would be after the rains, all the photos were taken on 14th June, 2009 so you can see crystal clear water there for all to indulge into. As there is no road it is best to go after the rains.

 Godholi:

Hill station like atmosphere at Godholi. This place is 15 kms from Nersa.

You reach to Godholi, which is just like a Matheran, a beautiful hill station. There is a table top before Godholi where one can halt for a night. There are no resorts as yet all is in nature’s best way. You can do a campfire, but I would suggest a day out trip to be on a safer side.

Belgaum is a Trekking destination in Outlook Travellers December issue

10:42 PM Posted by ukmad

The Outlook Traveller magazine in its recent December 2008 issue has mentioned Belgaum as a Trekking destination.
In its feature of Seasonal Choices; a winter wonderland of holiday options, Belgaum is a Trekking Destination.
It states “he tropical forests of the Western Ghats, one of the world’s 18 designated biodiversity hotspots, are one of our richest wildlife areas. And this is the season to visit. The Hermitage (Rs 1,400; 9242623020, http://www.thehermitageguesthouse.com/ is an eco-lodge and working farm set in the middle of the dense forests, which have over 1,000 plant species, many species of reptiles and animals like the Malabar giant squirrel and the bison. A lot of the wildlife wanders through the guesthouse but you can also go looking—on day treks in the adjoining areas. “
The link to the Hermitage site is wrong on the outlook traveler site, I have corrected it.
Belgaumblog.com had posted details about this Hermitage Guest house, “Nersa, A Wonderful place“ way back on 12 February 2008. See it here.

Belgaum Air travelers face more tribulations: Fly to Bangalore only for 4 days in week

After the closure of the AirDeccan Belgaum Mumbai Flight now the Kingfisher (earlier Air Deccan) Belgaum Bangalore flight, which was on a daily basis, will now fly on all days except Tuesdays.

Infact when I searched the http://www.flykingfisher.com website, to my surprise I got two different schedules. One in which there are flights on 6 days and one in which flights are there for 4 days.
http://www.flykingfisher.com/schedule.asp?tab=2 SEE view schedules it will show flight for 4 days; Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday.

On the same page when it opens, click the Excel Format on the top Right of the current frame and an Excel format file opens in which the flight is for 6 days.
The same website but offers two different timetables.

This is effective from 19-Nov-08 to 28-Mar-09. So, all those fliers need to re look at things if you had planned otherwise. In this very blog today only, I had quoted our CM BSY saying that the Belgaum Airport expansion was going on in full swing and I have to write in this, which is very bad. You are expanding the airport for what cars or busses to move.

I checked out booking a ticket and the 4-day schedule is correct I guess.
So this means the KF flight to Bangalore is now on for only 4 days; Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday.
Why are they doing it to us? Again, reason unknown may be they say load factor, may what it be but Belgaumites are here to suffer.
