CM LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR SUVARNA SOUDHA

4:15 PM Posted by ukmad

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa today laid the foundation stone for Suvarna Soudha to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 230 crore in Halagabastavadi, about 15 kms from Belgaum city on Bangalore-Pune highway.

Ceremony today Puja done yesterday: Suvarna soudha Details

10:05 AM Posted by ukmad

In a bizarre development, senior officials conducted some rituals at the site of the proposed “Suvarna Soudha”, one day before the date fixed for the function, reportedly following an advice by some astrologers.

Suvarna Soudha will have a central hall just like the parliament. Legislative assembly, council and cabinet halls, all will be in the same floor.

The new building would be built using large blocks of stones on the lines of Vidhana Soudha. Inspiration to have a central hall is drawn from the Parliament building to facilitate MLAs and MLCs to exchange ideas at a common place during legislature sessions. Even Vidhana Soudha lacks such an arrangement.

This is for the 2nd time the foundation stone will be laid in Belgaum for the Suvarna Soudha. In 2006 Kumarswamy had laid it in Vaccine Depot in a hurry and later due to pressure from the public the venue was shifted to the present Halga-Bastwad village.

The Soudha will come up in an elevated portion of the land on 120 acres at estimated cost of Rs 230 crore. The proposed Soudha would be a four-storied building, including the ground floor. The second floor will have rooms to accommodate ministers and personal staff, secretaries and other offices. The ground floor will contain a banquet hall, library, conference hall, canteen, post office and a bank. The pillars would be designed in Corinthian columns. The assembly, council and cabinet halls will be in the third floor. It will take two years for the project to complete.

Border row: Bloggers want peace:Mid-Day Story- BelgaumBlog is the first on the list

11:42 AM Posted by ukmad

The Mid-Day has made a special story with inputs from various bloggers. I was surprised to see my sites link to be the first one. A small extract is also put on.

From The Mid-Day ---

The Belgaum border dispute between Maharastra and Karnataka has blogs reacting to the issue.
The prevailing feeling among the bloggers is that both the people and the authorities in both the states should exercise restraint and strive for peace.

This blogger (http://belgaumblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/belgaum-is-peaceful-but-not-belgaum.html ) is urging all the people concerned to keep calm. The blogger feels that an issue of 52 years can't be settled in a day.
In a post titled "Belgaum is peaceful, but not Belgaum issue", the blogger says:
"I would request all to maintain peace and harmony in the city and don't believe on rumors as they spread like fire they can cause a lot of trouble."
"In all it's a tough time for all of us. As the busses are not going into Maharsahtra and their busses not coming in Karnataka, many would now take cars for travelling, but that too could be dangerous for a day or two till all settles down," says the blogger, making a request to anyone with plans to go to Maharashtra or someone coming into Karnataka, be careful.

Station road could be closed

11:00 AM Posted by ukmad

Station road could be closed
The Ministry of railways has sent a letter to the Cantonment Board asking permission for blocking the Station road (Amba Bhuvan to Railway station) citing the renovation of the Belgaum railway station.
The complete face off of the station is planned and for the same the railways need more space and as the said road passes through the railway owned property the cantonment board is also in a fix.
The said road was supposed to be repaired in the next month, all that has been put on hold.
This road is a short cut for many coming and going to bus stand etc from Tilakwadi. If the said road is closed for traffic it will cause a lot of hardships for the common man.

When will all this stop?
Bank of Maharashtra was ransacked today in Karnataka; tomorrow you could read Karnataka bank being ransacked in Maharashtra.

Where will all this lead? Pro Kannad or Pro Marathi but who is suffering the common man. Thankfully, nothing yet in Belgaum for the good, but eventually it might happen here also. No doubt, the security in the city is very tight due to the assembly session.

Lets all pray to God almighty to give everyone the knowledge and presence of mind not to disturb normal life.
We love Belgaum as it is, don’t destroy its peace, many years ago when there were communal riots in Belgaum, it was headlines then only on the Doordarshan then. We do not want Belgaum to be in headlines for wrong things.

Belgaum is peaceful: but not Belgaum issue

6:51 PM Posted by ukmad

From the 16th January the Belgaum issue has taken a rebirth, till then it would just erupt on a couple of days in a year and all would be good and calm later on.But this time, as I had mentioned in my previous posts this time it won’t be, the same is happening & I am not all happy with it, in fact no Belgaumite can be, be he Kannada or Marathi he will never have thought of this.
A KSRTC bus was yesterday burnt down in Maharashtra today 2 trucks with goods were burnt down in Tumkur as they had MH (Maharashtra) registration numbers.
In Bangalore, some Kannada activists burnt effigies of MES and Maharashtra politicians. In Kolhapur there were protests by cancelling the Corporation meeting.
Who is suffering, the locals. All buses are plying only in state, i.e Maharsahtra busses are going up to Maharashtra border only and Karnataka busses are only going up to Nippani. All busses to Konkan have been cancelled as a precaution. The private bus operators might also follow this, which will cause huge inconvenience to the public at large.
All border lying areas like Bijapur, Solapur, belgaum, Kolhapur have been badly affected. A report stated that many are stuck up in Pandharpur after the buses were cancelled the same situation is everywhere in the border prone areas.
Thankfully, nothing is happening in Belgaum other than the heated debate in the assembly and a host of press conferences.
I urge and appeal to all, keep your calm; an issue of 52 years can’t be settled in a day and at least not by burning down. I would request all to maintain peace and harmony in the city and don’t believe on rumors as they spread like fire they can cause a lot of trouble.
In all it’s a tough time for all of us. As the busses are not going into Maharsahtra and their busses not coming in Karnataka, many would now take cars for travelling, but that too could be dangerous for a day or two till all settles down. I would request anyone with plans to go into Maharashtra or someone coming into Karnataka, be careful.
Lets pray to God, that all goes well from tomorrow & we get back to normal life. Life in the city is very normal, but the fact that you can’t be travelling can cause some hardships.

Denying permission to ‘Maha Melav’ was wrong

11:16 AM Posted by ukmad

Denying permission to ‘Maha Melav’ was wrong
The decision to deny permission to the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) to hold the “Maha Melav” was politically wrong decision, according to a senior Minister.
KPCC member L.B. Karale did not appreciate the decision of the Government to deny permission to MES to hold its convention. He observed that the Government had acted undemocratically under the pressure from some Kannada groups.
Mr. Karale sought to convey that MES had no case against Karnataka or Kannadigas. They are against the States Reorganisation Commission injustice.
BJP leader Suresh C. Angadi, MP, said he and Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar B. Kore had insisted that there was nothing wrong in according permission, as the MES meet held on September 25, 2006, was peaceful.

Now these comments can strike off another a battle of war of words between many. But see this from a political point of view.

Why this fire?

10:20 AM Posted by ukmad

Why this fire?
Miscreants, of CHAVA group set on fire a North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) bus in Latur, while another bus of the corporation was pelted with stones at Udgir, in Maharashtra on Sunday. No one was injured in the incident but it was done to demonstrate the anger of Marathi people against Kannad people, it is said.
Image: http://www.sahilonline.org
I have a question to all those who are doing this, why this fire? You burnt the bus there someone will burn a Maharashtra Bus in Karnataka today. Then someone will beat up someone and this will go on and on and what will Belgaum get?
The fire is burning somewhere else and the burns are somewhere else.
I take this opportunity to ask all Belgaumites, both Kannad & Marathi speaking to be calm and think over with a cool head. This matter just won’t end here I guess this time.
We need to think what will we get after all this? After the session is over no one will look at us and no one will cover Belgaum as they are doing now.
We have to live together here. We have to come together and tell all may what happen in the Supreme court, we have been living together and we will.

Ban to prevent violence- BSY: Belgaumites view

4:26 PM Posted by ukmad

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday declined to comment on the statement of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who had threatened to snap ties with BJP over the Karnataka government’s “harassment’’ of pro- Maharashtrians in border areas around Belgaum.

Karnataka never ignored the interests of Marathi people of Belgaum. “Kannadigas and Marathis are brothers, born to one mother, Bharat Mata,’’ Yeddyurappa said.

It was the decision of the the district administration to ban the Maha Melava organised by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi, expecting violence.

One note of value: If you go with Marathi media there is one story and if you go with Kannda media it’s another one. I found English media somewhat in between like just giving news bytes of both parties like I have done.

States were made on linguistic basis & now with the boom of satellite television and newer channels coming up day after day, All want to give something special so that they can get higher TRPs. No one is trying to showcase the entire problem of Belgaum as a news. All want to sensationalize the matter. I for the 1st time saw Marathi media doing a 30 mins whole news how on Belgaum border dispute.  The Kannada media must have also done one, no harm in doing it, its business and to succeed in business you have to play all the tricks.

But those tricks and sensationalizing of the matter will not help Belgaum which is of more importance for all of us. The media all covered the event live from Belgaum for 2 days and today nothing, it means what the media (esp. TV) want something sensationalizing every day. “Din gaye baat gaye”

But who will suffer for all that is no one else but Belgaumites.

Hope you all agree to this point.

Kannadigas, Marathi-speaking people living like brothers

7:26 PM Posted by ukmad

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday said both Kannadigas and Marathi-speaking people were "living like brothers" in the state, a day after Shiva Sena Chief Bal Thackeray alleged that the former was "heaping atrocities" on the Marathi people.
"Kannadigas and Marathi-speaking people living in Karnataka are like brothers. In the interest of development both should work together," Yeddyurappa said here.
His comments came in the wake of the Sena chief attacking the BJP government in Karnataka over the boundary row.
"Chief Minister Yeddyurappa was accorded a red carpet treatment when he visited Mumbai. The same Chief Minister is heaping grave atrocities on the Marathi people in Karnataka," Thackeray had charged in an editorial comment in Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamna'.
"I have respect and regard for Thackeray," Yeddyurappa said.
However, Karnataka Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai described the Sena chief's comments as "baseless and politically motivated".

Big cinemas online ticket booking stopped due to Local statutory permission/regulations

10:21 AM Posted by ukmad

Mr. Vishal Kulkarni had emailed Mohit Dubey, Head - Quality & Revenue Enhancement Adlabs Films Ltd. asking the reasons for the withdrawal of the online booking for Belgaum Kapeel.
“I fail to understand in this day and age, where we have to embrace new technology and move ahead you people are moving backwards and forcing people to queue up in front of your theaters and go through all the inconvenience. Online booking is beneficial to you people also... you can reduce costs of having multiple ticket counters and hiring extra people to manage the queues.”
To that Mr. Mohit Dubey has replied which is strange to me and just don’t understand this. Civic authorities don’t have anything online except for online complaint booking, and if someone is using technology for the better, there are these hurdles.
“We apologize & regret the inconvenience being faced by you do to non-availability of On-line booking for Tickets/seats to Big Cinemas at Belgaum. However the mentioned service withdrawal is due to Local statutory permission/regulations, on which our dedicated team is already working, we hope to restart the On-line Ticket Booking facility for Big Cinemas Belgaum Very Soon, wherein you will have the convenience of booking the seats of your choice for your favorite movies at Big Cinemas Belgaum.”
