Union Bank of India will operate the Bankers Clearing house in Belgaum

11:44 AM Posted by ukmad

Times have changed and also newer technology has come in all the fields, the same is with the Banking industry.

Yesterday a new MICR cheque processing centre and Bankers clearing house run by the Union Bank of India (UBI) was inaugurated yesterday by Mr.Mohindar Kumar, Dy.General Manager RBI & Mr.K V A Balaji Registrar of VTU presided over the function.
Till date the bankers clearing house in Belgaum was run by the SBI at its Kirloskar road branch and from today the clearing will done by UBI at its new MICR centre at Khanapur Road behind Lengade Hostel.

More about clearing house:

The place where the exchange of instruments occurs and the claims are settled is known as the Clearing House.
In India, the clearing system is local and confined to a defined jurisdiction covering all the banks and branches situated in the area under a particular zone. The clearing house is a voluntary association of banks under the management of a bank where the settlement accounts are maintained. Wherever Reserve Bank of India has its office (and a banking department), the clearing house is managed by it. In the absence of an office of the Reserve Bank, the clearing house is managed by the State Bank of India, its associate banks and in a few cases by public sector banks.

The membership of the clearing house includes both direct members and sub-members. All the branches of a member bank within the clearing house jurisdiction are eligible to present and receive cheques drawn on any other member bank/branch within the jurisdiction. The sub-members, who are sponsored by a member bank, participate in clearing in the same way as a branch of a member bank. The membership to the clearing house is through a joint decision of the general body of the clearing house.

Clearing Structure: The dominant feature of the Indian Banking system is its branch-centered banking. The vast network of branches implies that the logistics of collection and delivery of paper payment instruments becomes formidable. The clearing infrastructure is designed to address the movement of instruments between the presenting and drawee branches. Each member bank in a centre is represented in the clearing house by its service branch which collects all the instruments from various branches and consolidates them for presentation to all the banks in the clearing house. Similarly, it receives and distributes among its branches all the instruments drawn upon its branches by other banks in the clearing house. The service branch of a bank performs a crucial intermediary role between the clearing house and the branch of a bank.

Khanapur Road to get dividers soon

11:26 AM Posted by ukmad

Dividers could be soon seen on the Khanapur road, from Sanchayani Circle to Suryakant Park (Gogte Circle). Tenders have been called for the same and the same would be opened on December 6.
Also tenders have been invited for removing the electric poles along the same road and also remaking of the road. This means, we could expect to see a broader Khanapur road. The traffic is very heavy all through the day as is part of the NH4A. Part of the road is under the PWD and some under the National Highways authority and they don’t seem to be co operating with the cantonment board.
Dividers should only be put after the road has been widened or else it would cause huge traffic jams. Now it is to be seen when all these things happen?

RPD the Most Happening Corner: Parking dilemma

9:51 AM Posted by ukmad

RPD corner is the junction of RPD college road Deshmukh Road & Khanapur Road.

On any given day, corner (I would not call it a circle as it does not really have sufficient place) is buzzing with activity all day round. Young Turks keep on zooming up and down the Deshmukh Road for some sights. These young ones sometimes go zip zap zoom causing more trouble. There is heavy traffic on the main Khanapur Road. The signals installed never work, the day they worked all cursed it as the line went up to Govaves circle and Angol Cross.

This corner houses financial institutions (plenty of them), couple of banks, Grocery outlets like More, Reliance Fresh is coming up, Café Coffee day is there. (Sources have told me Axis Bank is planning to shift here somewhere).

There is no sufficient parking place in front of the said commercial complexes as all the basements are crammed up with generators and other stuff. One complex also holds residential houses so the parking is taken up the residents and the same building has More, CCD, HDFC life insurance, Airtel, Fortune Financial etc. So where do the visitors park. No doubt, there has been some parking space made available when the corporation removed the unauthorized compound walls all along the street. Nevertheless, that has not helped much.

City busses have a stop there at the corner only, which again causes many problems for easy movement of traffic. People waiting for the bus have their own dilemma as there is no proper bus stop and the buses halt at any place sometimes near the corner and some other while near ICICI bank. The biggest problem I have found here, is the Entrance to the RPD college road is small as there are those tea stalls and shops round the corner and the road is hardly 20 feet wide there nor can it be made a one way also as there is no alternative road. In a month's time, a Sarvajanik Ganpati Pandal will be set up at this site, which will add more spice to this problem.

So what should be done? Any suggestions. Do leave your comments.

Belgaum getting many Traffic Signals:Khanapur Road widened

9:05 PM Posted by ukmad

These are new on the Belgaum roads now. New traffic signals are being put up at RPD Cross & Cantonment Bord cricle(near Globe Theatre). No doubt these were necessary but with these the road humps near the signals should be removed otherwise the traffic will become dead slow. and hope they will be on for quite a some time other than those installed earlier.

Khanapur Road (camp) being widened

These are pictures oft he Khanapur Road (camp, infront of police quarters) near to Sanchayni circle. the said road is being widened by 3 feet. In the above pics you can see the JCB digging out the earth and on the other side is the already dug part. Due to this the traffic is very slow on this road after Fish market to Sanchayani circle.

Is Belgaum Real estate in Real Boom?

12:56 PM Posted by ukmad

Many changes have taken place in Belgaum in the past one-year or so in the real estate market. Infact the only market with double-digit growth has been real estate. Major retailers and developers have now pounced upon Belgaum to grab a share in the pie. Many new developments are coming up in Belgaum. I have already covered a few of them in my blog in brief.
From today I will try and elaborate on this in detail with details of the plans of the buildings etc. This is just a start. And to make a start, I thought of Geetanjali constructions of Belgaum itself.
They propose to build Geetanjali Plaza, a commercial approved layout just opposite Big bazaar on Khanapur Road, Belgaum. The construction has already begun.
It will be Ground +3 stories. Ground floor will be approx.3065 Sq.ft. 1st, 2nd & 3rd floor would be 3355 Sq.Ft. each. All the floors have independent access.
This is could be an ideal place for any retail chain or multi national company to establish and to take their business to newer heights. The said space is available on outright sale or on lease. The lifts will be of reputed companies so you don’t need to worry about how to reach on the 3rd floor. Emailing can get you all other specs: sachinheda@gmail.com.

Mr.B.K.Joshi is the design Architect. For more details you could email on the above address.
Disclaimer: My blog by no means supports or promotes the plaza. I have no interest in the same. I am just trying to get to you things in your city, which needs a look.

Road Humps for WHAT?

11:29 AM Posted by ukmad

In the last week various road humps were put up all over Belgaum roads. Somewhere it was a necessity and somewhere I think the way they have been put is wrong.

Take for instance the Khanapur Road, Globe theatre to Sanchyani circle. In this 600 mtrs stretch there are 6 road humps at your service.1st one is Globe Convent cross, 2nd one is after the cross infornt of the Cantonment office, 3rd before fish market cross, 4th after the fish market cross, 5th opp.petrol bunk near police Qtrs. And the 6th just after the petrol bunk cross.

So many humps in such vicinity are causing huge traffic problems. There are no police deployed except the Globe cross. Suppose you are driving in 3rd gear you need to get back to 2nd near the hump and even before you reach your hand to go back to 3rd gear the hump is here again so again in 2nd gear only. The traffic on that specific road is also very heavy with all buses and trucks going to Goa have to take the same route. If you are behind a truck mind you cannot overtake it till Fish market when the road widens a bit.

To add to all the mess there are no sign boards. The Globe cross has one but it was put up last time when there were complaints about no signboards. And the best part is just to reach early commuters try and tale the alternate route that is try and avoid the hump and overtake by the left side which is dangerous.
In all, the motive in which they were put was good but the manner in which it is executed is wrong, that's what I can say...
