Letters to the Editor: Big cinemas Big Mess!

7:10 PM Posted by ukmad

This is new series o this blog. Letters to the Editor.

I receive a lot many mails, which are of importance in general and should be shared with all. In this regard, this is the first one.

Letter From: ~ Vineet
I being a true Hard Core Belgaumite (Staying @ Bangalore for my Work currently) have a Grievance.
Actually I had been to Big Cinemas on Sunday Night (25/1/09) @ 9.15 pm Show for (Screen 2) watching my First Movie (Raaz-2) in the Brand New and beautiful Ad-labs Multiplex. My Seat number was K-3 (Gold Class 0118). IT was all good, for the first 15 mins or so. Then entered a bunch of guys (4 to 5) loaded with Alcohol. In addition, to my agony their seats were right next to me. They came in and kept shouting rubbish until they were in the Cinema Hall. They left the Cinema Hall in between only because one of those people puked in the Cinema Hall (may be seat number K-5).

I actually got out of my seat (k-3) and sat somewhere else when these people cut loose.... I went back to my seat only after those people left.... only to discover that one of these people had puked which the big cinema Helper/Employee told me.

I strongly believe that the Big Cinema Authorities need to Make sure that they do not Issue tickets to Drunken People to stop this kind of incidents, which creates discomfort and inconvenience to other Audiences in the Hall, after all its a public place not a private theatre or Home. In addition, making the brand new seats in the Hall Dirty and unhygenic.

If you have the Contact Number (Preferably Mobile Number) of the Big Cinema Authorities of Belgaum, please do send it across. I did not wait @ the theater after the movie Ended as it was 12.15 am already. I thought I would speak to the Authorities the next day but could not as I was traveling back to Bangalore.
This is some thing, which needs to be taken care of, so that it does not happen next time and create Nonsense in the Big Cinemas.
-- Thanks, Vineet.

“Concept Exhibitors, Hubli and Rotary Club of Venugram-Belgaum” are organizing the IT Expo 09.
The ITEXPO-09 aims to bridge the gap between the customer and the companies, and it surely have done it.

Now that you thought of buying a laptop, also think of buying ant virus software like K7 and quick heal. Printers, copiers, scanners, I beam and other computer peripherals are there. All those who wish to learn, about computers then there are the Rooman & New Horizons for you. Thinking about a broadband connection Airtel and BSNL are also there. Websites designers like my site designers Leading Minds were also present.

In all this is a nice place to go and see all the stuff in one go and then select what you want. It was a pleasure for me to see so many different companies under one roof.

Kunda Nagri saw record sales of Kunda! What a sweet!dea Sir je

10:28 AM Posted by ukmad

The sweet shops in Kunda Nagri, Belgaum made record breaking sales in these times of recession. They made whopping sales of roughly 6000 kgs of Kunda alone during the 9 day session period. During the last session in 2006 hardly 2000 kgs were sold.

According to the figures given by the Belgaum Kunda manufactures association, the sweet shop owners have roughly sold kunda worth over Rs 10 lakh, within a span of just eight days, provided they charge around Rs 150-200 per kg.

30% of the 6000 kgs of Kunda sold was Sugar free and new trend in sweets and also shows the health consciousness of the politicians or may be the after effects of Diabetes.

After kunda, kardant, another specialty of Belgaum (Gokak) made of jaggery, recorded extraordinary sales during the session.

This time prominent politicians had placed orders beforehand.

The festivity over in Belgaum

7:05 PM Posted by ukmad

Should I say the party (festivity) is over or at last it’s over, leave it to you?

Party I am talking about is the Assembly session; it was a party for the MLA’s and MLC’s. They came they ate, they spoke about everything other than what was meant and they went back.

Now that the party is over (assembly session) all the hype of the session is over. A few roads were made over which was a good thing for the city, some high mast street lamps another good sign. Some pavements remade which if last for a while can see commuters walk over them.

There were no power cuts in the city for the past 10 days or so. It was a welcome relief but even before we could breathe the power minister has already stated that the scheduled power cuts of 4 hours will begin from Tuesday.

The fate of the plants (rather I say tress) in the divider of various roads is not known. They were watered till yesterday and from now on who is their god father is to be seen. Similar trees planted during the 2006 session were removed as they never grew and new plants were put in the same holes and we could expect the same to happen the next year, as I won’t think the new Suvarna soudha would be ready by next year.

The Hoteliers will feel awful as they were working to full occupancy for these 10 days, even the smallest of smallest hotel was fully occupied. The sweet shops must have minted a few more rupees when everyone going back home must have taken some sweet from here, normally Kunda or Kardant. A few who knew about Belgaum sarees were seen in Shahpur buying the same.

The government will say that the session was highly successful and this was the first step towards the development of north Karnataka, the opposition otherwise. But we have to think over what really happened. A few bills were passed in which nothing was there for Belgaum or north Karnataka. The assembly session was held to have discussion about the development of North Karnataka but in reality nothing converged. The whole session was superseded by the illegal mining issue and that issue too was left half way saying it will be discussed in detail at the budget session in Bangalore.

Various memorandums were presented to the CM and he readily accepted it. The Belgaum corporation new building was opened in a hurry and such other things were done in a hurry.

The finances of the state govt are in dire state. There is huge under recovery of taxes as it was mentioned in the assembly session due to the economic slowdown, but nothing encouraging was discussed about it either.

The BJP government took a politically immature decision under pressure from Kannada organizations. The MES has lost its base and far away from any immediate recovery. But, K-organizations want to encash only to boost its bargaining power with political parties in the elections. Raj Thakery is suffering from identity crisis and in hurry to do something in a highly fanatic manner, even though some of the issues raised by him are genuine which are not restricted to Maharashtra alone but also in other states of India, including Karnataka. But his style of thinking is political aimed at vote bank.

This time the border issue also saw a rebirth and violence after many years. This time the timing for the border issue was right I guess. Elections are due in next couple of months and all parties want to have one issue. Raj Thakrey’s MNS has stealed the Marathi Manoos issue from the Shiv Sena and hence this time The Shiv sena caught up with the Border issue. Other parties were not be left behind like the NCP and the Congress and the BJP stating that Belgaum should be made into a union territory.

Here in Karnataka there was violence all over and agitations against the MES. But thank fully nothing turned out bad in Belgaum. It was far from Belgaum. But the after effects are still being seen as the interstate bus services are still affected after a few of them were burnt by both sides.

Now you might say what all rubbish this Uday is writing all negative only. But I began to write this post with some positives of this session for Belgaum, didn’t I. Good roads, No power cuts, some basic infrastructure development on a small scale.

It’s all up to you the common man to rethink what has been achieved, I am not against the assembly session being held here, I am for it, but the purpose for which it had been called for has not been achieved and that is my only blubber.

This is what is promised for Belgaum:

Development of a botanical park at the Vaccine Depot at a cost of Rs. 5 crore for which a master plan would be prepared, improving and extending the sewerage system at a cost of Rs. 120 crore, a 35-km ring road at a cost of Rs. 150 crore and a sum of Rs. 5 crore to be released for land acquisition

The KIADB would establish a foundry cluster on 500 acres of land near Machche village. A 3-km road linking National Highway No. 4 to the Kanabargi Auto Park would be laid by the KIADB.

Belgaum Corporation failed to utilize funds

10:22 AM Posted by ukmad

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has expressed displeasure over the “failure” of city corporations to utilize funds released under the Special Development Plan announced by the Government in the budget proposals for 2008-09.

The Government had announced Rs.100 crore in this financial year another 50 crore in the next year, but the Belgaum Corporation had failed to utilize the said funds. In fact the CM said that the BCC should have asked us for more funds.

Kapileshwar Road & Dharwad Road railway over bridge will happen at last

10:21 AM Posted by ukmad

The state government has agreed to bear a part if the cost of the railway over bridge at Kapileshwar Road & Dharwad Road.

Railway over bridges at these two places is must as the traffic is heavy on the roads and also the roads are not so wide. Once the over bridge is done it will ease of the traffic jams.

Tender process for the Rs.100 crore sanctioned by the state govt. has begun.

Building a over bridge or a under bridge (Planned at Kapileshwar Road) is not a easy task. Support of local residents will have to be taken into consideration before doing anything otherwise the whole plan could go flop as some buildings at both places will have to be brought down for the said bridges.
