HESCOM’s power play to continue

Due to some technical fault at the Raichur power plant there is a acute power shortage in the state and the HESCOM’s power play will continue over a few more days.

In fact this time the whole state is witnessing the power play. This is exam time and the students who are preparing for their exams will feel the pinch of the power cuts the most.

The demand in the past week has also risen due to the increase in temperature which now lies in between 28 to 31 Deg C. The demand for fans and even AC’s has seen some increase in the past week.

BJP to resolve the Karnataka Maharashtra border row if it comes to power

The BJP expressed confidence, that the Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary dispute will be resolved amicably if the party comes to power at the Centre, and ruled out "differences" with ally Shiv Sena over the row.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters, "BJP believes that inter-state issues could be resolved only through dialogue. If our BJP government comes to power at Centre, a satisfactory way-out will be found."

Belgaum to get Bandu patil Circle

The Belgaum Cantonment had planned to rename the Khanapur road from Sanchayni Circle to Suryakant Park (Gogte circle) as Bandu Patil (He was a part of the gold medal winning Indian hockey team in the 1960’s) road, but it was later found that, the same road was named after Maj.Cariappa in the military records.

Hence it is now decided to rename the Sanchayani Circle as Bandu Patil Circle and circle will be renovated with an island in the middle.

This circle was named as Sanchayani Circle about 10 years ago when Sanchayani group was building a complex at the circle and also had sought permission then from the Cantonment board to maintain the circle. But the Complex was ready but never occupied due to court orders and till date it is lying un used due to litigation.

The Sanchayani group had built a island in the middle but due to non maintenance the island was removed.

Belgaum Dog show 2009 on 8th Feb

The Belgaum Dog show 2009 will be held at the District Stadium on February 8 at 10 am.
The event is being organized by the Karnataka Veterinary Association district Branch, Belgaum.

SPECIAL BUDGET GRANT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF Belgaum

The Belgaum city corporation has invited tenders for various development works in Belgaum under the special grant from the State government.

The works include roads, UGD, Central Lighting works etc in Belgaum city. The works include very many roads of the city mainly roads that were not touched up during the Assembly session and those covered here again are for other works such as dividers and street lights.

The total cost of tenders is a whopping 9317.627 Lakhs. (This figure was gained after adding all the 31 packages)
The time limit for all the works is 9 months.
Last date for submitting application for tender forms document is 12-02-2009
Opening of Technical Bids by the Commissioner, Corporation of the City of Belgaum is on
02-03-2009 at 11.30 am or any other date will be intimated later.

HESCOM’s Power play

In the past two days HESCOM is playing with power supply. The state is facing a power shortage and before the Assembly session there was a planned load shedding going on, but during the session this was stopped.

Now after the session there is no planned load shedding. There is power cut at any time and for any time period. Sometimes it’s half an hour and sometimes four hours. Yesterday it was a hide and seek as after every 15 minutes or so there was a power cut.

Today so far the situation seems to be good.

Ethanol-blending programme on a pilot basis in Belgaum

The government has initiated ten per cent ethanol-blending programme on a pilot basis in two districts - Belgaum in Karnataka and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

Initiated about a month ago, will continue till June 2009, said informed sources. The purpose behind this pilot initiative is to study the impact of ten per cent blending on two-wheelers before introducing it commercially. Domestic oil marketing companies (OMCs) are keen to continue biofuel blending programmes even after the recent crash in crude oil prices. Blending of ethanol, they say, is necessary from the viewpoint of import substitution in crude oil.

Four passengers looted in Jodhpur express

Four passengers traveling in the AC compartment of Yeshwanthpur-Jodhpur Express were looted of cash and gold ornaments worth more than Rs. 2.5 lakh, after being drugged by co-passengers on Sunday night, three were women.

A co passenger who also spoke in Marwadi and who allegedly told them he was also going to the same place gave them some milk, after which all 4 fell unconscious and the man looted them.

Innovative technologies and high-speed communication systems that have converted the world into a global village have come in handy to give concrete shapes to these new ideas and concepts.
Latest developments in the field of education are the development of e-learning content on a mobile device. This is what the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has planned to launch in about three months’ time.
With the launch of the e-learning content, VTU would be enabling its students to learn anywhere, anytime via a mobile phone.
According to Vice-Chancellor, this will be for the first time that any educational institution in the country has taken up a project to provide such a facility that will also ensure a new learning experience to engineering students. A Bangalore-based Information Technology company has already started working on developing the programme.
Once the facility is launched, a student can access a topic from the course on his/her mobile phone. The programme enables students to have direct access to the courseware and learn with the help of 3D graphical presentation of topics in various engineering subjects. The presentations are linked with voice and text content.
The students can view the 3D animations from different angles. For example, the working of a DC motor can be understood well by showing the animation of setting up of flux and the generation of torque which control the movement of shaft. The student can vary the field current, and see how flux changes and hence the change of torque. The low bit animation of process enables fast access and hence can provide quicker response to the input stimuli.
The VTU has proposed to develop five courses using the low bit animation technology.
