Belgaum is Goans preferred destination

10:08 AM Posted by ukmad

On a week end Belgaum is full of Goans. See Car Parking anywhere and you will see all GA, Goa registered cars. All hotels full to capacity with maximum visitors from Goa.

Geographical, cultural and ethnic proximity attract the Goans to Belgaum. They feel much cooler here than in Goa even when the temperatures have risen to 38 degrees Celsius in Belgaum. Goans normally combine their visit to town with shopping, health check up or just entertainment. KLE hospital (Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital) has been a great success story for Goans here. The Kadamba bus also had a drop point in the KLE.

All eating places are bursting and do brisk business on weekends. Many of the Catholics from Belgaum who have now settled in Goa and the still have their roots in here, make them come here often. Others just come here to do their shopping. The main factor is that the taste and variety suits the tastes of Goans which has also helped the local businessmen to grow. On a weekend Shahpur is filled with people from Goa shopping there mainly for Sarees. There are a few who go Big Bazaar as it is on the way from Goa. Shopping for fresh vegetables from Belgaum is a favorite for Goans. In fact majority vegetables sold in Goa are from Belgaum.

The routine of Goans is to some extent fixed. They come here more often than not on Friday afternoon; they do window shopping that evening after they have checked in to their favorite hotels like Anupam, Adarsh, Sanman now even Effa & Shankam, but Anupam is Goan favorite. Saturday morning is serious shopping from 9 am till night. For lunch or dinner the old favourite is Adinarayan and now only fish, but now Goans also throng the restaurants with regular Indian, Chinese cuisine, Gujrati thalis etc. Even Big Cinemas on weekend has majority Goan crowd. The Auto’s also do good business as normally the Goans Park the vehicles at the hotel and go around in Autos and the special Belgaum autos charge exorbitantly for which they are famous. Going back from town without Kunda is not a great sign; hence the sweet shops also keep themselves ready for the weekend.
The most important factor for Belgaum being the preferred destination is that the town has something for all classes of Goans. You may come in a Honda city or Kadamba bus Belgaum has something for all.
More Goans will perhaps come to Belgaum if the road infrastructure is enhanced. The road via Anmod has been repaired recently and via Chorla is yet be made. If we have roads like the Belgaum-Kolhapur 4 lane roads, the 154km odd distance would be very easily travelled in 3 hours and we could even get more traffic from Goa and vice versa.
So, on a weekend its busy times for Belgaumites serving the Goans and also making brisk money.

But then he was green with very little experience of the outside world. He failed sustaining it as the demand for services was meager.
He then took a few odd jobs in Bangalore and started working as a Freelancer along with a job in the day. The Freelancing helped him technically and got loads of contacts. He came back in 2007 and started working from home office setup alone. From then on he has 4 full time and 3 freelancers working for eth1 Network Solutions.

Starting the startup in Belgaum was the easiest option due to the infrastructure, contacts, commuting time is absolutely meager and having a lot of colleges providing the BCA/BSc(Comp)/BE(Comp) for man power needs helps tremendously.

They recently opened a training unit for educating people interested in Linux/Unix. Courses offered are not only practically oriented but with managing 413 servers of clients remotely eth1 Network Solutions staff has the right experience in molding Linux geeks from Belgaum!

Passion for Linux/Unix & Love of the Linux command line and desire to help companies with the right solution prompted Swapneel Patnekar to start eth1 Network Solutions in his home town, Belgaum.

KHB building-building without permission

1:01 PM Posted by ukmad

This is the irony of the civic authorities. Anyone can know this and see this, but the Civic authorities (BCC) have gone blind.

The Karnataka Housing board (KHB) is constructing huge towers near the railway over bridge, and form an RTI application it has come out that the Corporation has not given the requisite permission to KHB build the towers, even then the construction work is in full swing with work being done day and night. To, top the icing on the cake Shri. S. G. Patil, Commissioner of BCC did not even know that such construction was in progress.

Construction started in late October and the building will be utilized for residential purposes for the government employees. The KHB has sought permission for the construction from BCC but they haven’t got it still.

The BCC goes on a demolition drive when they see small encroachments but are they blind here?

Operation PIG

5:04 PM Posted by ukmad

Swine flu breakout I the world have made the Belgaum city corporation to take on the Pigs in the city.  It was the dogs earlier & now it is the turn of the pigs.

Mahantesh Nagar , Anagol, Auto Nagar Khasbag, Rukmini Nagar, Gandhi Nagar are the most affected areas by pig nuisance.  Pigs roam freely in the gutters and on main roads. The BCC had taken up a pig clean up drive earlier but was stopped.

The BCC is issuing notices to pig breeders about this and it seems the civic body is not going to take any chances, as swine flu is spreading day by day.

Shiv Jayanti celebrated with great huge participation

10:58 AM Posted by ukmad

A large number of people had gathered along the route of the procession to witness the celebrations. In fact the turnout this time was quite large than earlier years and a notable factor this must be the Shivaji Serial going on TV.

All went off safely but there was a spat amongst the Police and the Organizers on the issue of putting up a controversial banner which was tied to a tractor, had given a call to Marathis to keep alive the issues pertaining to border and saffron flag, "which are pride of Marathis" which belonged to Bhandur Galli. The police asked the rally organizers to remove the banner and chaos prevailed for a while. Later SP Sonia Narang allowed the banner after removal of some parts of the script.

Congress MLA Feroz Sait, MLA Abhay Kumar Patil, MLA Sanjay Patil and Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi leaders Deepak Dalvi and T.K. Patil were present.

Ramdev Galli and Maruti Galli were full of people even at 1.30 at night. Kids were enjoying the whole show and were shouting Jai Shivaji all the while.

See the examples below. And the best thing you can do this right from this site, see the map on the Right Hand side and click Get directions: Form here – From Here.

Try getting home from your office in Bangalore or elsewhere and see the result. Some results may not be exact, but you can really make out a road to go, if you are new comer in town.

Tip: Just type in the places mentioned in the Google map like Bus stand, Fort, Mahantesh Nagar so that Google knows exactly what you are looking for.

INVESTMENTS IN MUTUAL FUNDS

If we look at the kinds of investment, options available to investors in today’s times, we find that mutual funds are one such instrument which can provide the facility to participate in all available financial instruments.

The following points bring out the importance on mutual funds in financial planning process.
Mutual funds offer a variety of products suitable for :
i. different return requirements.
ii. Different risk appetite
iii . Different tenures

These instruments also provide for the same or better tax treatment than other instruments viable, therefore various kinds of mutual funds schemes like equity, debt and money market can be used in various proportions to make a portfolio having the risk and return attribute tailor made to an investors need.

Use of Mutual Funds help financial planners to make own tasks easier. This means that the role of financial planner will be make strategic asset allocation in response to the needs of client and then leave the fund managers of mutual fund schemes to select securities within those asset class.

Since Mutual Fund portfolios are driven by pre-stated investment objectives, it is easier to match investor objectives with the mutual fund product.

Mutual funds enable flexible options to invest and withdraw funds, and alter the investment portfolio by changing the mix of funds held by the investor.

On an average less than 5 % of the investors in India have invested in Mutual Funds and rest in other instruments like Bank Deposits, Post Office Savings schemes, Gold etc.

All mutual funds are registered with SEBI and function within the provisions and regulations that protect the interests of investors. A Mutual Fund is a trust that pools together the savings of a number of investors who share a common financial goal. All such investors buy units of a fund that best suits their needs be it capital growth, regular returns or safety of capital. The Fund Manager then invests this pool of money in securities, ranging from shares to debentures to money market instruments, depending on the objective of the scheme.

Benefits of a Mutual Fund: 1. Increases the purchasing power of investments.
2. Enables them to have a well-diversified portfolio even with a very small amount of investment.
3. Reduction of risk.
4. Money would be managed by a professional at low costs.
5. Reduction of transactions costs due to economies of operation at a large scale.
6. Liquidity
7. Convenience of investing the money and tracking the performance of money ( hassle free investment, consider this : an investor can have exposure in equity shares without having a D-mat account. )
8. Flexibility to change investment objectives.

Mutual Funds offer a wide variety of schemes.

DEBT FUNDS: These funds invest only in only in Debt instruments like company debentures, government securities and money market instruments completely avoiding any investments in the stock markets. Hence, they are much safer than equity funds. At the same time the expected returns from debt funds would be lower.

BALANCED FUNDS : These funds invest in mix of equity and debt instruments. Hence, they are less risky than equity funds, but at the same time provide commensurately lower returns. They provide a good investment opportunity to investors who do not wish to be completely exposed to equity markets, but are looking of higher returns than those provided by debt funds.

EQUITY FUNDS : These funds invest entirely in the share markets and attempt to provide investors the opportunity to benefit from the higher returns which stock markets can provide. However, they are also exposed to the volatility and attendant risks of stock market investments and hence should be chosen by investors who have risk taking capabilities.

Choosing your investment mix depends on factors such as your risk appetite, time horizon of your investment, your investment objective, your age etc.

Advantages of investing in Mutual funds are:

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE: Fund Managers in mutual funds are professionals who track the markets on a minute to minute basis. With their mix of professional qualification and market knowledge, they are better placed than the average investor to understand the markets.

DIVERSIFICATION: Since a mutual fund scheme invests in a number of shares or debentures, the attendant risks are greatly reduced. Even if the stock price of one of the companies goes down or a company defaults on payment of interest, it does not result in a substantial loss to the investor, as the other holdings of the fund can compensate for this fall.

RELATIVELY LESS INEXPENSIVE: When compared to direct investments in the capital market, mutual funds cost less. This is due to savings in brokerage costs, demat costs, depository costs etc.

LIQUIDITY : Investments in mutual funds are completely liquid and can be redeemed at NAV related prices on any working day. Since, these are bought back by the mutual fund itself; there is no risk of not finding a buyer. Besides, redemption money can be received by the investor within a week.

TAX BENEFIT : This summery of tax implications is based on the current provisions of the applicable tax laws. Income received by the unit holders in respect of the units of the Mutual Fund is exempt from tax under Section 10 ( 35 ) of the Act.

Tax deduction at Source : In view of the exemption of income in the hands of the Unit Holders, no income tax is deductible at source on income distribution by the Mutual Fund, under the provisions of Section 194 K and 196 A of the Act.

Investment in mutual funds are subject to market risks.
